hi all. im writtin this really upset ive had ibs since i was 8.im now 22. its horrible.docs have given me antidepressants and loads of other tablets but nothing is workin.

it ruins my life. i cant go out without havin a panibk attack due to ibs.

just opened my own bussiness and my ibs is gettin worst.

any1 out there please email me i need some one to talk to about it.

I'm sorry to hear how long you have been struggling with this. 8 is such a young age to have IBS. Have you been thoroughly tested for IBD?
We'd all love to chat with you and trade helpful tips. Feel free to post any questions you may have.

hi thanks for the reply. no i havent been tested yet, but im very sure i have it. 8 is a very young age. i didnt attend school much when i was younger bcos of it.

i think i may have got it at such a young age bcos i was abused from the ages of 4-9.

im not sure, but ive heard similar stories.

sometimes i really feel like ending it all thats how bad its got. if my frineds plan a holiday i wont go cos takin on off a plane scares the hell outta me cos that 15mins u cant get up, i keep thinkin i may need the loo. its a horrible feeling!

hey nikki_malta...dont worry we are all like you on this site. its a horrible thing to have..have u tried taking lomotil?? it stops you going ot the toilet. i take it when i have to go out or when im at work,cos i to panic quite a bit cos i think i wont make it to a loo...its hard...but lomotil seems to help...its the only way i can get out of the house really...as for the plane situation. i had a panic attack on a plane last year. wasnt the nicest feeling...but i was able to continue with my trip and go on a few other plans in the same holiday...i just had to really calm myself when taking off. take sleeping tablets so u sleep alot...i also took lomotil on the flights so i was ok..also used my relaxation cd on my ipod.that helped..if i think of anything else ill let u know :)

Before I go on planes or to some sort of engagement (wedding, parties, holiday events, vacations, etc.) I take Imodium. It will stop me up long enough to have a good time. You should try it (once in a while) to help yourself get out more.
You should really go back to your doctor and get tested properly and discuss your options. There is light at the end of the tunnel... just be positive.

thx to both of you. its so gr8 to know some ppl know how im feeling. i will go to the doc and ask him bout the lomotil and imodium.
ill keep u updated. i managed to work all day today, but only havin a few mouthfuls of whisky cos it calms me abit. is there anyone else that thinks booze sometimes help? i only use it if im desparate. which is mostthe time

Alcohol can really mess up your intestines and make your IBS worse.  Even a small amount you may be sensitive too.  I'd hold off on the whiskey for a while and see if you improve!

ye. i guess ur rite. im gonna get myself looked at. i need to get this all sorted out. its makin me feel so ill. im thinkin... well i had my gaul bladder removed when i was 16 am now 22. does it affect the ibd??
everything seems to be messed up.

Nikki, I will say that I do understand what you are saying regarding the alcohol.  Sometimes when I am having a bad attack a few glasses of wine can actually calm my stomach down alot.  I still will have the diarrhea but the stomach pain has seized.  I know it is not a recommended temporary cure, but I am willing to do anything to make my attacks less severe.

Good luck to you.  WE all know how it feels to have this ruin/control our lives.  I have been severly depressed over it also.  It has put a big a huge strain on things in my life.  But I am finally starting to realize that I am the one who can control how I react to it.  I can deal with it (as well as I can) or let it put me down even farther.  It is hard and alot of time it does bring me down-but, there are the times I can see past it & go on with my daily routines.

There are a few rare people on here who have found that hard liquor makes them better, not worse. But most IBSers have a hard time with alcohol, espeically beer. But for the few who are better with some hard liquor, they say it seems to calm their guts down. It may be that the alcohol works as a muscle relaxant in those cases. This may be something that your doctor can replicate with antispasmodics or anti-anxiety meds that will still allow you to legally drive!

And yes, not having a gall bladder will mess your guts up permanently. I don't know about you, but I have excess bile (yellow and burning) in my stools and it causes me to have diarrhea. I take Welchol to correct it. Welchol is a cholesterol medicine, but they have found that it absorbs bile in the intestines and works miracles for people who have too much because of a lack of a gall bladder. I am almost normal because I take this everyday. There are still some things I have to avoid, like caffeine and pretty much anything fried and definitely anything greasy--but other than that, I'm pretty good to go. I also take a calcium supplement most days just to help keep things dried up to normal levels in there. If you have problems with diarrhea, make sure you ask your G.I. about trying some of this. It fixed me and my mother-in-law right up and we'd neither one be without it.

hiall i went to the docs today. he took one look at me and knew i was goin thru a hard time. i asked him if i cud start taking "efexor". he told me to try it. so here i am i had one so far this mrnin. i know it prob aint worked yet.. but i am feelin really grotty! im praying( and i hardly pray) that these work.so anyways im gonna sit bk and hope these work. stopped takin too many booking at work so maybe i cud relax bit more.

hi ppl. im on my second day on efexor. i think it may be workin. i still have bad "D" but the pains have gone. im hoppin they work.

I know how you feel. I am 25 and I have had IBS-D for at least 5 years now. I am so afraid to leave the house for any reason. My worst fear is letting go in my pants. Luckily, I have a very loving boyfriend who is understanding and helps me cope with my fears and anxiety brought on by IBS.
I wish the medical industry would find a way to cure all of us already! It's so frustrating to live like this. I have had suicidal thoughts many times since I had IBS. People should not have to live like this. I want my body fixed already! I've tried practically everything.

hay i been on efexor for a week now!! ibs still there.... just tired!!! oh god i want my body fixed too. ur lucky u have a supportive bf, my ex dumped me cos of it. anyways im now datinn a amazin bloke. i kind of explained a few things bout it... but its gettin worst and he wants to go on boat trips, bbq`s where theres no loo`s!!! and im .... well freakin out and sayin NO all the time!
