New here, going for colonoscopy

Hi Sarah- I too had nausea/have nausea.  I had no prob. with the endoscopy or the colonoscopy. However, ask your GI MD if you can use the phospho-soda.  It's only 3 oz. as opposed to one gallon.   I used the soda which I had to combine with 'a large chilled glass of Sprite or Gatorade'.  It was much easier. So ask. . . it's worth a try.  What are your other symptoms?

Hey Sarah, I have become all to familiar with that horrible stuff, and as was already said about the Phospho stuff, I also will chill it and then chug the stuff and chase with an equally as cold 7up or sprite, the gallon of Coltlye or go litely , I also will chill overnight and then get a straw and chug as much through the straw and then chase again with ice cold water or sprite...if you have to premix it , as I had to, I would fill up the jug the night before and let sit in fridge overnight and just really try to think about something else and drink through straw helped to get it farther back in mouth...Worked for me...Good luck

I've all ready filled the prescription for the half gallon golitley, so I think I'm stuck with that.

I'll try the straw trick and see if that helps. Thanks for the well wishes. I bought some drink mixes to add to each glass, hopefully that will help too. I didn't trust the flavored stuff they put in the box to mix with the golitley. And who are they kidding..."GO-LITLEY"????

I never did get through my whole bottle of it, but then I had diarrhea to start with, so I didn't need a whole lot of help to get going. I eventually got to where I was putting it in a shot glass and knocking it back because that's all I could stomach of it at one time.

Apparently there's some stuff in Canada (too late for you to get it now) called Pico Salax and everyone who has had it agreed that it tasted great, like orange Tang. And it wasn't thick like waste water, either. If I ever have to get another colonoscopy, you better believe I'm going to order some of that stuff and take it regardless of what my doctor prescribes. Like I said, I never need a lot of help to get started anyhow. And unlike the U.S. Senante, I think if it's good enough for the Canadian FDA, then it's good enough for me; the Canadian government's not going to be letting their people take junk, like our drug companies and government imply.

I'm hoping this stuff will stay down...don't have to start drinking it for another 5 hours. I sure wish I would have known about the Pico Salax, but thanks for letting me know anyway.

I'm telling this doctor that she better get and see everything she wants, because this is my first and last.

I dont' believe in invasive testing as a rule for myself, unless it's truly warranted. I can't believe I finally relented and I'm all ready regretting it.

I know exactly what's wrong with me, but I have to jump thru the hoops the doctor as set up to get to the real test I need...*sigh*

I'm managing to get the stuff down, I just finished my fourth glass. I've been adding a flavor packet to each glass, the kind you can buy to add flavor to your water bottle.

I'm using the orange, and so far I haven't tasted anything but the orange, however I may never want to taste the flavor or orange again.

How long before it starts working, I'm wondering? I have this nightmare of being up all night on the toilet since it's nearly 7pm all ready.

How's it going? Don't be surprised if you are actually up all night. The prep can do that if you don't start going until later in the evening. Not to worry, tomorrow after the scope you will sleep like a log.

What happened... Did you drink everything? Did you go at least 20-30 times? If not, you're probably right and weren't cleaned out.
Did you go in for the procedure? Gosh I hope so. I would hate to have to re-do it. **I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news from you.**

I had a colonoscopy done today too and for the first time ever had all sorts of problems going. I've been having these done since 1988 and never had this problem before. I was really worried about them not being able to do the test because of it. My doctor was really surprised too that I had to really strain and push on my stomach to go. I had horrible cramps that I've never had like that before. I drank the whole gallon of stuff and took the 4 pills. I had diarrhea 2x before I even took anything so don't know what the deal was with that. They had to give me a warm water enema before hand. I had problems with the sedative not working. I had problems before and was really traumatized by the pain so explained this to the new doctor. I never went back and saw those other 2 docs that did it while I was fully awake because they didn't give me enough. The doc after that had to give me 3x as much and then the doc last year had to give me 5x as much as usual. I was really mad at the doc after the procedure today because I felt it and cryed the whole time. He said he gave me 7x the normal amount and couldn't give me any more. He said that I've become immune and will have to have the next one under a general anesthesia. He put that right on my chart too. Any one else ever have that problem? I've had ulcertive colitis since 1986, but today they found that it is still in remission but I have irritable bowel. I can't believe I have another health problem. I will have to have this done every other year because last year they found 2 polyps and one of them was precancerous. It took that doc last year 3 months to talk me into the test, but I'm sure glad he did after he found those. Barb
