Potassium levels are really high

Hey there gang,

had my bloodwork done last Thursday and doc that is covering for my family doc called today, she wants my potassium bloodwork redone, as soon as possible....Said that the levels are at 5.6...I didn't think too much of it at the time, when I did a little research on the numbers I have found out that I am kinda in the danger zone//// 5.6-6.0 not good, talks about renal failure,,,now I am a little ticked cause I have had labs come back that there was some kidney problems but it was always ,not in the danger zone, so all of a sudden I get one lab back that is in the danger zone and everyone is going crazy...I have also been nauseus now for about 2 weeks, actually vomited twice and have had a wicked headache....So I don't know....Muscle twitches under left eye (had this before as well) and shakes....It was really bad yeturday, I was making supper and I couldn't stop shaking and a couple of times I thought maybe I would be dizzy and pas out, but I never...

This is very confusing for me...

Definetly get it checked out. Good that the Dr. noticed it. Do you get copies of your tests. I find it very good to have copies and compare. My friend was just hospitalized with high potassium after 2 blood checks. She said they kept asking if she was feeling pressure, pain in jaw. She felt just fine but they kept her overnight and gave her laxatives and now have changed her BP meds from an ACE inhibitor to something else and she is supposed to stay away from potassium stuff like orange juice and bananas. I just noticed that the Antacid I just bought has 5mg of potassium in them whereas the ones I just finished don't and have magnesium instead. I may give these to someone as I take a BP pills that is called potassium sparing. Your numbers are only a little over the norm but good that it is being checked out. If yourkidney figures came back normal then it is probably not that but obviously you are not feeling well. Let us know.

I haven't heard anything from docs about this potassium thing, reception said they would get their mail on Tuesday as Monday is civic holiday...So I guess I am waiting till then, and of course I go back to work on Tuesday, after being off since March....Arrrgggg, I am not looking forward to that ,,,anyway I will let ya all know what happens...

Well, apparantly it is not that high that it is dangerous. My friend was called and told to get to ER at once. I have no idea what her number was but it must have been really high.

I started back at work today,after being off for 5 months, and I got my fiance to call the doc who is covering my regular doc and receptionist said that she would contact me if there was a problem and that he didn't ned to call, cause if there was nothing she isn't going to call////what a b%$^#, hey..

Here she is the one that called and said "oh you need to get this bloodwork done as soon as you can"

So anyway she didn't say whether she has the results or not, so wjen my own doc gets back on Monday I will call her...
