How much pain do you get??

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask a question regarding pain and ibs. On a scale of 1-10 how much pain would you say you get from the ibs, mainly those with constipation. At times my pain is literally unbearable, unable to move etc. I just wondered if this was normal with this disease or not.  Thanks

Sometimes when I am constipated,I become faint cold and clammy from bearing down to try and go. A Colo-rectal surgeon told me it is a vascular problem. I just had 3 days of testing at U of Mich. I am even more confused now. New GI Dr says I don't have UC,I have IBD.Not one Dr I have gone to has agreed with the other. 4 Drs and still they can't agree. I am so sick of this and sick of Drs.

Good evening to all.  yes, I get pain on all levels.  Some days, it's just an ache but if I am severely constipated, I get pain that renders me almost unable to move.  My Dr. used to have me come in for that even though I insisted it was related to the IBS, NOT my appendix, etc.  It's funny- it sometimes happens even when I'm not constipated.  When it reaches it's peak, sometimes I'm vomiting from the intensity. It's become very ramdom even outside of the constipation.  It's tough though to be up most of the night with it and then try to function the next day.  I am healthy in many other ways though so I am grateful for that. Good luck with your pain- perhaps an anti-spasmodic?  I stopped asking my Md for one as each time I called, they panicked and then made me come in only to not give it to me in the end.  They always insist that it could be my appendix.  I really like me PCP's office, they treat me very well but how many times are we going to go through this?  Oh well, :)   good night and sweet dreams to everyone.  DON'T forget to set your clocks ahead.

Thats a good question ... BUT. I Bet that nearly everyone with IBS will give you a different answer. This is not a black and white question. (yes or no). For myself pain comes and goes and varies continually from the scale of 1 - 10. Sometimes it dull, sometimes it's sharp, sometimes its in my stomach and sometimes in my butt. I actually monitor my abdominal pain everyday with on a scale of 1-10. (10 being agony). Over the years i have graphed these symtpoms and I see absolutely no pattern. The graph looks like random squiggle.

Hi Emhaskey, I'm sorry you missed your class. I don't really have any answers though. I'm not very clued up on IBS, still waiting for a complete diagnosis. I don't believe I have IBS, just some of the symptoms. The gas is bad (lucky my husban is used to it now!!) , and the constipation is dreadful (I'm lucky if I go every 10 days). But the pain is far worse. I've tried everything for both and so far no relief. I hope someone from the forum has some answers for you to get relief from your pain.
