water enema suggestions

Hi hungry, I'm sorry but I can't tell from your post what exactly you use and how often?? Can you give more info on this. I have taken enemas in all forms for 2 years, so I know most of them and the horrible ones I remember VIVIDLY!! now I am using home irrigation and the effects aren't so severe. Hi Hungry, I really know how your feeling. I regularly went 10-14 days without a BM. I am 32 and I was told I probably had IBS with severe Constipation also. But they were wrong. I have slow transit constipation with anismus and proctal fugax. The internal & external sphincter muscles don't contract correctly making having a BM almost impossible. I tried every possible med going, all enemas also. Although the at times worked they were so painful it put me off using them again. The problem with most enemas is they contract the muscles so severely that this is very painful. Have you ever had a proctogram done? I would insist on further testing for this as you can't carry on the way you are. I am currently using a method of irrigation which although doesn't give drastic results, it is helping me a little. The colorectal nurse at our hospital carries out irrigation once a week and I continue every day. This is basically filling the colon via a tube and a funnel with warm water. This doesn't cause the huge spasms and contractions that most enemas do. We are going to give this a good few months but their is something called an appendix wash which can be done in cases of severe constipation which isn't helped by meds or by enemas. We'll keep our fingers crossed for this irrigation. Please don't give up. I asked to for a second opinion ad within 2 visits with my new doctor I was getting some relief and he was so helpful trying to find the causes. It's very easy for doctors to dismiss constipation as IBS, but often it's not. If you want to ask any q's please feel free to do so. Take care x x
