Crohn's disease AND Celiac disease?Has anyone ever heard of this?

We have a moderator for the Crohn's forum that pops in here every once in a while that has gotten better on a GF diet and she has Crohn's as well. I'm not sure if you will get too much response in IBS since most of the Crohn's members post in the CD forum, you may want to post your question there as well.

Since you say that you have had undiagnosed Crohn's, then maybe you have not have Crohn's at all this time, but Celiac's only. Of course, nothing says there can't be two things wrong with you at once, but Celiac's, someone mentioned on here today, is also an autoimmune disease, and it being an allergic reaction, would surely cause problems similar to or including inflammation in the intestines. So it's possible that the two are easily confused.

I guess you'll know if you go gluten-free: if you never have any more problems, then you don't also have Crohn's; if you do still sometimes have problems, then you might have both (or you could have Celiac's and IBS). The only way to know for sure is to see an ulceration by way of a colonoscopy.

Right now, I'm still stuck with a crohn's diagnosis. I have one more c-scope and most likely, that diagnosis will be "undone."

I was recently tested for Celiac, but it came back negative, which I knew it would. I seem to have sensitivities and/or intolerances to wheat things, so I've been relatively gluten free for a long time now. Made a big difference in how I feel and interestingly enough, the pain I had (that we thought was from the CD) is gone, as are my strictures (small bowel). Coincidence? Most likely, but hey, it works for me. I typically stay away from anything white (bread, pasta, and the like) and try and eat as wheat free as I can. I am not fanatical about it and sometimes, I just can't help myself and I'll have something (small portion) I shouldn't. Seems to be ok as long as it is once in a very blue moon and not alot. It is really hard to get yourself GF, but once you do it, it's not bad. I just wish they'd make GF bread less dense and better tasting! (I love bread).

Good luck with both of your diagnoses. One is hard enough, but both of them? Rough.
