Intermittant Diarrhea & Irregular Bowel...?

HI people today happens to be the 22nd day after the incidents {sexual encounters which have been analysed by the experts on the HIV/AIdS forum as low risk}.

Somehow my mind feel queasy...anyways today i had 3 bouts of acute diarrhea, it was quite painless, but there was a rotatory pain in the stomach. I called my doc immed, & he prescribed the anti-diarrheals. It seems to be still a lil queasy, but i'm managing. It's because of these encounters & the possibility of contracting HIV that i'm confused about this irregularity in bowel movements. Still have 2 & 1/2 weeks or so left to get my conclusive result.

My question about diarrhea though is...Now because of all the stress in the past few weeks about "AM I Infected", my diet has also been erratic, it's been more of order in food, rather than a safe diet i could prepare at home. What i'm wondering is, can acute diarrhea of this sort occur within an hour or 2 at the max of consuming the food (either infected/stale/unhygenic). The last 2 episodes of diarrhea i have encountered have been this way, where the body reacts within an hour or 2 & it's sudden & acute & after 3 - 4 trips it stops.

My mind's confused about this as in the past whenever i've had unhygenic or bad food related diarrhea it's been after about 12 hours or 8 hours, or when i wake up in the morning. But now it's been within an hour or 2, does this happen often in food related diarrhea where the body reacts within a hour or two?

Could this sort of bowel behavior in any way be associated to HIV infection??? I guess not but i'd like some experts here as well to reconfirm based on the symptoms of diarrhea described! I'm unable to decipher & if this continues i will have to run to the doc again.

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to post this query, this being a HIV/AIDS forum, but if it's okay i'd really like your thoughts on this matter experts.

One to two hours? Some people with IBS have D before they even finish a meal! And a lot of people have D first thing in the morning, even before they eat (although especially right after breakfast).

We had someone on here a little while back who was having bowel problems after having anal sex. I don't know if you engage in that, but that's not good on your bowels either, and should never be done without a condom, regardless of your partner's status (some things just aren't supposed to be injected in there, if you know what I mean). If you've had unprotected anal sex, try some Activia yogurt or probiotic capsules as these contain good bacteria that is always good for your guts, especially if you've put something in there to irritate it or even to get it mildly infected.

Given that HIV/AIDS seems to take years or more to develop symptoms, I doubt your sudden bowel problems are caused by that; you are almost certainly right that you have worried yourself into this. If you get a negative test result, but still feel worried all the time, then you may need to see a therapist; a lot of people worry excessively, even when there's no evidence that they should worry. Just talking about all of it may make you feel better.

Stale food will not give you D. If you had eaten contaminated food--as in spoiled or e. coli or something like that--you would know it; you wouldn't be having D here and there, but be having it constantly, along with vomiting, sweats, fever--that sort of thing. Besides, regular old food poisioning typically only lasts 24-48 hours, so what you have is almost certainly not caused by that. That being said, your diet can make you sick even though it isn't itself bad food. Too much greasy fast food, too many pizzas or fried foods, too much trans fats, too much caffeine can all make an upset stomach more upset. Try sticking to broth-based soups and sandwiches and cereal and bland stuff like that for two or three days and see if that doesn't help. Along with getting over the worry too, of course.

Well no i did not have penile insertive anal sex, it was rather finger insertive anal sex. Yeah i kinda felt that after the incidents of the sexual encounters for a couple of days i was also feeling pain whilst passing stool!

yepp i'm trying to regulate my diet & for the past 2 days i've had irritable bowel ( as in 2 - 3 times in a day, & not really well formed as it is normally), but not really the loose stool i was having earlier.

Hopefully in a few weeks time things will take a turn for the better :)

Hi Everybody, well a few days back i did get my HIV results, i need to confirm them in a few weeks, but i've been assured they aren't gonna change & yes they are negative!

I'm feeling a lot better, however the irritable bowel that's dawned upon me has now become a problem. I've been having stools (slightly illformed than usual) about 4 - 5 times a day, intermittent stool evacuation, sense of bloating & most times a feeling of incomplete evacuation. I've heard people say once you get IBS it's hard to get rid of it , is this true??

I've been trying to regulate my diet to the best of my abilities, but sometimes due to the travelling i do, i have to indulge in whatever is available!

Really need some help.....I tried to check out for activia, but couldn't find it, does any one know what name it's sold under in Asia??? or in what form ??? I'm in Asia right now!!!!

You might not can find yogurt in China or Japan, as milk products are not very big in either place (Chinese people being more lactose-intolerant than Caucasians). BUT, if you are in the Mongolian region, I hear that they make yogurts from mare's and goat's milk (both being better for lactose-intolerant people as both have less lactose), while India serves a lot of yogurt with their meals. Any yogurt will help you, if you can find some. I hear that homemade stuff is better than storebought anyways.

Make sure you stay away from fried noodles and dumplings and the like. Steamed white rice is always your friend. You might try avoiding al dente veggies if you're having a bloating problem, especially broccoli and califlower (which seem to be harder to digest than just about anything else). If you can get stuff cooked to mushy (not the Asian way in most cases), then that will help.

Stress-induced IBS isn't impossible to get rid of, but you do need to give it a few days to a couple of weeks. But it sounds like you're busy and running around a lot, which won't help it any. If you can vacation to some Buddhist temple for a long weekend, that might do more than any medicines.

Also, we had a guy on here whose IBS got cleared up when he followed his Chinese dad's holistic advice. Totally blew his mind that the stuff worked, because he thought that it wouldn't. So, if you're in China, you might see if someone you know can recommend a doctor. D is a lot more prevalent in Asia than in the US, so I figure that means they've probably developed better ways of treating it.
