confused  Anyone elese trying to work and sick as a dog, been fired in the past because of it and denied SSI on top of it.  I am only trying to work part-time 1 night / week and I can hardly do that.  Have to deal with all the emotions of calling in; feeling guilty, and worring about getting fired yet again, but sick as a dog.  What to do?  I use to never be out of work before this illness.  Anyone relate?  On top of that - need the money.

get a hold of a lawyer. They usually want two months disability payments after you have been accepted. Most will do a free appraisal.

They always deny you the first time. They will do it again and again. Don't give up. It took me at least a year.

I didn't appeal the decision; probably should have, but it was going to be 4 months on the appeal and then if that was denied at least 18 more months for a hearing. We needed the money so bad and i had already waited 4-5 mos. Husband can pay bills, but not much left to live on and we don't have insurance, so it cost a lot for me to get my meds and to go to the dr there just isn't money for that. But, i have already called in twice to this job and only been on it since April 23. I am afraid i won't be able to hold it down or i will get fired yet again. my nerves have been shot for 2-3 wks and my ibs has been awful; debated the all dreaded ER trip today, managed to stay out of there so far. diarrhea like 20 times + vomited once and the pain is unreal. taking meds and drinking gatorade.hope it works. meds just not working well.

I agree to fight the denial. A lady I worked with, her husband had to quit work because of his agressive prostate cancer, the radiation treatments that left him too weak to get out of bed, and major, major heart and respiratory problems that left him on a permanent oxygen supply and they denied HIM! They were going to appeal when his company (whom he had been with since it was founded) just decided to pay him a regular wage until he died.

I don't know if you have any sort of handicraft, but there's a place online, www.etsy.com, that's kind of like an EBay for crafts, only without the auction. You could try selling crafts there (I'm going to look into it pretty soon myself). I think they don't even charge any start-up fees; they just take a commission, like a regular store. You could also try selling things at the local flea market. So long as you price things cheap, you can sell just about anything at a flea market. Even if you aren't physically able to go and sit there all day and sell, your husband might be able to. Now that it's summer, you might also could get a friend's kid to sell it for you for a cut of the proceeds. I read a story once about a woman who pulled her husband and herself up out of poverty by doing nothing but selling her beadwork at a flea market.

Make sure you also apply for your state's medicaid program. Even if your husband makes too much money, a lot of them will accept you if you can prove you've been denied coverage by two or three insurance companies. With all of your health problems currently and in the past, I don't think anyone would touch you, leaving you free to persue government health care.

thank you keriamon and everyone elese; i am going to look into the ins part for sure. yes my husband does make too much money for medicaid, but i really need help with my healthcare; can't even go to the docs when i need to lately due to no ins and the high cost of the visits without it and my doc has been giving me samples of my meds as best he can. he has been good to me through all of this. i don't think i am going to be able to keep doing this job - i tried, but i have just been so sick, what's so bad is it is a easy job and i liked it, but my body isn''t cooperating - i am going to have to pursue the disability. i am looking for an attorney now.

Well, ended up in ER Monday night for abd pain and a migraine on top of it; the doctor and nurses and all other staff was really good to me. I must say I dreaded it. I have had visits that were awful and you just never know how it will turn out, but they helped me through that night.

I did end up having to give up my job though. Unfortunately, I just couldn't do it. The company was understanding though, and that makes it somewhat easier.

I refiled for SS Disability today; I was barely over the time limit to appeal the decision from the previous denial, (1st denial). Oh well, I tried to work again and just couldn't; at least I tried.

I contacted a lawyer, but they want to see my medical records first; Is this a normal request for my type problems?

I have been trying so hard to keep working.  I work full time and am a full time student and suffer badly from IBS.  I haven't even tried to apply for SSI because I always hear they deny people with IBS.  Last monday, I ended up at my Dr.s, got a pain shot, went home and still hurt.  Then went to work tuesday and was told by my really mean boss that if I didn't finish out the day he was going to kill me by drowning me in the grand canyon.  Then, wednesday, I worked half the day, and ended up back at the dr.s, got another pain shot and went home.  I was out on Thursday and Friday.  On friday, I went back to the dr's becuase I was hurting so bad.  So one more pain shot and a sore butt later, I was home.  Last night, I was crying on the bed and my husband was feeling pretty bad about not being able to help me.  So, to the ER we go, and they give me another shot and tell me that I have a choice between a contrast CT scan or going home.  Then the ER doc said that the contrast CT fluid would probably take three hours to take, and would upset my stomach even more.  I told him, why don't you just tell me to go home if you aren't going to help me.  I told him that an ER doc is not supposed to release you if they haven't helped with the pain.  Suprisingly, he got upset and told me that those were my only options.  I told hime I was going home.  Today, my doc perscribed an immediate release morphene pill, and this is the first day that I am using it.  It seems tobe helping so far.  I can relate, itis so hard to stay at work when you feel like there is some little knife-carrying troll squishing around behind your belly-button, and making you topple over in pain.  I work in a hospital kitchen (YES a kitchen), and when I get really sick, I cannot stand to smell the food, or see it for that matter.  My doc says that he is impressed with my staying ability, but my boss says that I have taken too much leave, and that I must not be very dedicated.  I wish he only knew.  But, thanks guys for telling your stories so I don't feel like some kinda freak out here.  Ya'll rock....

Are you sure this is IBS? Have you had a abdominal CT scan and an an endoscopy. I know IBS is painful but getting pain shots for it is rather unusual. Is this like spasms? and are you seeing a gastroenterologist? This just sounds too extreme to me.
