Does anyone have severe abdominal pain from IBS so bad that they just want to curl up and die. Right now I'm taking Librax and Belladona. The first month of Librax took the pain away completely then last Friday the pain came back and two days ago they added the Belladonna. My doctor refuses to give me any narcotic pain medication such as Vicodin even though I can't stand the pain. I live in Connecticut. Any suggestions? Does anyone live in Connecticut and have a GI doctor that will prescribe narcotic pain medication?
HELP!!!
Yes, I do experience debilitating abdominal pain at times. However, I would never take a narcotic for the pain. Narcotics are absolutely constipating. Constipation leads to gas. Gas leads to abdominal pain and spasm. And, from personal experience, narcotics do not take away the pain. They only make you sleepy.
In my 2 decades of dealing with IBS, I've tried nearly all the drugs available. Often they will work when you first begin to take them. But typically, after a period of time, they lose their effectiveness and you are back where you started. And sometimes, as in my case, anti-spasmotics can effect the natural motility of the gut and leave you with constipation problems.
Have you tried any natural remedies for the pain? Some folks find certain teas helpful in relieving spasms. I use a heating pad on the belly as well as belly massage. I have also found lying on my left side with one leg slightly bent helps to dislodge trapped gas.
The source of most abdominal pain is trapped gas or constipation. For me, the best way to combat pain is to keep my system moving efficiently. Sometimes prescription drugs are counterproductive to that end.
