All of that being said, welcome to the forum :)  I am sorry to hear of your many health problems.  Abdominal surgeries are always difficult to recover from and it sounds like you've had your share of complications.  Do you have the opportunity to see a different physician to get a second opinion about your situation?  Sometimes a new perspective on matters is what we need to get the most help.  I wish you the best of luck and keep us updated...

For many people, it is hard or impossible to fully recover after having a gall bladder out. Thankfully, most people do not continue to have pain--as you have had--but most seem to either have problems with diarrhea (most common), acid reflux (also very common), or constipation (not appearing as often, but definintely related).

You may be having pain from scar tissue related to the removal of your cyst or even the removal of the gall bladder. Some people do continue to have pain on their right sides for no apparent reason after the gall bladder is removed. Scar tissue and damage to the bile duct is about all anyone has come up with as possible explainations. Although, some pain on the right side might be related to gas. With the digestive tract missing an organ, gas patterns can change and you might have a lot of gas all of a sudden that causes pain.

One thing that can cause more gas is spicy food. Also beans and lentils--which I know is popular in Indian food. You might try eating a bland diet and see if you see any improvement. Make sure your vegetables are all well cooked--the more raw (hard) they are, the more likely they are to cause gas. You should try and eat a serving of yogurt everyday because that has good bacteria in it and that can help with gas problems and irregular stools. Three things I still have to avoid after having my gall bladder removed: caffeine (this includes de-caf coffee), anything deep-fried (fried in a vat of oil or a lot of butter), and fruit juices (cooked fruit is okay). Smoking is also hard on the stomach and should be given up if you do it.
