What do you think caused your IBS?

I believe that IBS IS caused by something.. it could be little or it could be huge, but I was a very nervous worried girl when i was younger, and I was a picky eater. I was sad alot too. I believe this is what caused my sensitive bowel.. I could be wrong, but I don't understand how IBS just comes, you know?

I would love to hear what you guys think/what you think caused your IBS.

I've always had nervous guts. I would get nervous or worried and then I'd end up in the bathroom. I would have to say if I had to pick something that I thought my IBS was caused by I say it's a combination of things. I had a horrible case of Giardia as a kid and was prone to stomach viruses. If it was going around I caught it. But I think the thing that tipped it over the edge so to speak was when I got horrible food poisoning at a wedding( not the reception food but the breakfast the day after). I had to literally stop at every bathroom between Columbus Ohio and Buffalo, New York. Two weeks later I was in the ER for Immodium induced C and the rest is history.

But yeah I think that the fast food diet and all the junk I ate in the beginnings stages didn't help any. Denial is a very powerful thing.

Going by what my GI says, I believe my crohn's brought on my IBS, he said it's not uncommon for someone with IBD (crohns or UC) to develop IBS especially severe/long flares with their IBD, it can aggrivate the intestinal tract and bring on IBS.

One of my sisters also has IBS, but she does not have UC or CD (IBD), her life is extreamly stressful though, and I've often heard stress can bring on IBS...having crohns with no full remission for 17 yrs has certainly stressed me out.
