getting nervous about my trip to montreal

i am going to montreal in 2 days with my mom and dad for 3 days, and i am starting to get nervous.. probbaly becuase i was in pain all day today, and just had very bad pains. I got a new med last night called PEG. dont know if its a normal one or not, but i had to put it in my drink (powder). I hope it isn't disagreeing with me because i really want to feel somewhat ok for montreal, i know i wont feel good, but i will be very upset if i have the whole time i'm there.. i want my parents to feel happy about it, and i want to be able to shop and stuff. Maybe i should not take this med until i get back from montreal. its a motility drug, so that is probably why i got bad pains today since i haven't really been going.

If any of you want to give me some tips about my trip or whatever, or if you know info about the medication that'd be great. I am hoping the trip is somewhat okay.

I think what you got (PEG) is the generic version of the dreaded GoLytely we use for prepping. *cue slasher music here* Ha ha, just kidding about the freak reaction. Since you got it in a powder form and not in the usual gallon sludge form we're used to, it probably isn't so bad. I wouldn't, however, drink too much of that stuff if you want to be out and about in Montreal. You're bound to be stuck on the toilet, as it is, in fact, a powerful laxative.
I'm no doc, nor should I be telling you what to take or not take... BUT, if at all possible, I would avoid the laxative until you've returned from your trip. Here is my reasoning - 1) you don't know how you'll react to it, 2) better to be at home when trying new meds, 3) as it is a laxative, you don't want to only get to know all of Montreal's toilets - you want to see the other goodness the city has to offer.

If it's a laxative, it can cause cramping--which may explain your pain. Also, if you have impacted stool already, then you could be getting cramps to empty the soft stuff that's stuck behind the hard stuff. I had that to happen once--the hard stuff was so hard that the laxative couldn't help with all of it. I just had to struggle to pass it before all this soft, laxative poop came out. It was all back up behind it.

You might try using enemas while on your trip. They shouldn't cause as much cramping and they can help you pass anything at the end of the line that's really hard, making it easier to go over to the laxatives and start moving stuff out. I've read about people with bad C doing that before they do a colonoscopy--take an enema or two to get the hard stuff out at the end before starting the laxative. Otherwise they have all this stuff backed up behind something they can't pass and it hurts terribly.
