anti-spasmotics???? HELP!!!!

Hello! HELP!!!! Can anyone tell me what anti-spasmotic they are on and if it helps with the pain associated with eating?? I am currently on Bentyl and have taken a couple of others over the years but nothing has helped so far. Can anyone suggest one that really works and is strong enough to  help me?? PLease please please help if you can!

I'm currently on belladonna( the generic for Donnatal). I don't take it for the pain from eating( I just deal with it myself since mine doesn't last very long) but it works nicely when the ole' guts feel like they are being ripped out. I've also tried Librax but that was way too strong for me. Sure I felt no pain but it all worked too well at paralyzing the guts and I didn't go for a week. Personally I don't need something that strong because my guts are sensitive to medication. But the stronger stuff might just be what you need.

I've heard good things about belladonna too, never tried it myself though. Hyoscyamine is another anti-spasmodic that might help. Has anyone suggested doubling the dose, by any chance? Obviously you have to run that past your doc before trying it, though; don't mess with your prescription meds by yourself!

Jackie, for me meteospasmyl works the best. It decreases bloating, so I guess it can help with pain.

I take hyoscomyine but I don't have actual pain. I have what feels like bubble in one area almost like it has gone dead and it helps with that. It makes me a little sleepy but o enough to go to sleep. Also gives me blurred vision. Donnatal has more of a tendency to make you sleepy since it has Phenobarbital in it. If I have pain it is usually from gas so I take something like GAS-x for that.

The one thing that worked well for me when I had to use one was a drug called Levsin. I used it for colon spasms when my colitis was the worst. I am not sure it still around but I assume it is but check with your doctor.

Yes, Levsin = hyoscyamine. Levbid is the same thing, I'm pretty sure...

I take Buscopan as an antispasmodic. It works really well but it can make your heart race, so it's a bit of a toss up!

I use Levsin for a spastic colon. I try to take it before I eat as my onset of pain always happens after eating food. Before they put me on levsin I had dropped around 20 pounds because nothing was helping, the only thing that helped the pain is if I just wouldnt eat. So I stopped eating. Well that can only last for so long, I ended up in the hospital with exaustion and dehydration. At this point they gave me the IBS dx and put me on levsin and phenergren for nausea as well as elavil. The elavil made things worse as Im a constipation based IBS sufferer so they recently put me on Trazedon, so we'll see how that works. But the Levsin has been an absolute life saver as Im able to eat again, you know minor detail of life :)
