After poking around these forums and reading a bunch of really helpful stuff...and realizing my doctor never told me HALF of it... I've decided I need a new doctor. Like, I said to my doctor "I have a first cousin with Chrone's Disease, could we please check that?" and my doctor did a single blood test and determined I was fine AND basically told me to knock it off and stop looking things up online. *grumble*
I'm scared that I'm going to wind up with another doctor who doesn't beleive me about my pain, or that tells me it's in my head. NOTHING is more frustrating that having a doctor look you in the eyes and say "There's nothing wrong with you" when you know that YES THERE IS - ya know?
I'm looking for a doctor (both general medicine and a gastroenterologist) anywhere around the Princeton, NJ to Philadelphia region. I'm in South NJ, but I've got a PPO and I'm willing to travel a little bit. Problem is I don't even know how to begin looking. Last time I just flipped through the phone book, basically, and I don't feel like that was the best way to go. Obviously I don't want to ask my current family doctor because I genuinely think they're blowing me off as some kind of hypocondriac.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for how to find a new doc? Or is there maybe someone in this area who already HAS an awesome doctor that they can recommend?
Also, and somewhat unrelated...
This place is AWESOME and I'm SO glad I found it!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people who put it together and thank you to the people who post such helpful information!! I feel so relieved knowing that there's a place I can go to talk to people who understand and get helpful, real information from people who KNOW what I'm going through.
Thanks,
Mae
