The most beautiful words I've ever heard

"This makes sense."

That's what the doctor told me yesterday. My symptoms make sense, and he thinks he knows what's wrong with me AND how to go about treating it!!! I can't begin to describe the RELIEF!

Long story short, my digestive system is sluggish - emphasis on "VERY". He's not sure if it's because there's a back-up in the ol' guts and that prevents my stomach from emptying properly, OR if there's a back up AND my stomach doesn't empty properly on it's own... but he's going to find out!! He only ordered three tests: a blood test to screen for Chrone's Disease (which they did in the office before I left, and I'll have the results in a few days), and an endoscopy/colonoscopy combo. They'll knock me out, scope me from both ends, and I'll wake up when it's over.

The doctor was nice, respectful, polite, extremely patient, and above all else he BELIEVED ME!! Even the nurses were nice!

He put me on Reglan and Nexium to help my tummy woes. He theorizes that my food is just sitting in my stomach for hours, fermenting and essentially rotting inside me. Needless to say, it makes me feel sick. The Reglan will help move everything along, top to bottom. The Nexium is to address the reflux I've been having lately.
I have to wait til October 3 to get the scoping done, but at least I'll be getting it done all at once! The prep for everything looks pretty gruesome, but at least I won't feel backed up anymore, right? heh...
AND NO BARIUM MILKSHAKES or other painful tests! The worst from here on out will be the waiting and the prep for the scoping. Other than that, though, no pain from here on out - not by the hand of the doctor, anyway. Now THAT's new and novel!! :)
I am so excited by the idea that my condition may be treatable!! I might be able to manage this with something as simple as medication. I might be able to live a normal life again!! How amazing is THAT??
Whatever it takes, I really like and trust this doctor. He was respectful of both my boundaries and my personal comfort levels. He didn't inform me they were drawing blood that day, he asked if I would be ok with having the blood work done af the end of the appointment. The nurse didn't tease me or make fun when I told her I was a baby about getting blood drawn. In fact, her only concern was that I lay down and that I wasn't going to faint.

I am happy and excited to start my new medicine (waiting til the weekend, just in case I react weird or something...you never know with my tummy). YAY FOR GOOD DOCTORS!!!

I didn't realize that Crohn's disease was diagnosed by Blood test. The Reglan will help you move the contents of your stomach faster and that will also help cut down the acid, also. Glad you found someone that you are comfortable with.

I suggest you take the reglan without the nexium for up to a week for a few reasons. The reglan should get the food out quicker and that might cut out the reflux. That will keep you from taking meds you don't need and save you some money. Also, if you get side effects, you won't know which med caused it and may have to stop both when only one is a problem.

In my case, reducing the acid with Nexium slowed my digestion even more, gave me more reflux making me miserable. I needed the acid to digest food. Reglan alone stopped the reflux.
