Still new to all of this....

Anyway my GI said I have spastic colitis and IBS.  I was on Entocort for 3 months, he discontinued that.  I have Bentylll to use as needed which works wonders. 

2 questions......

1) Can anyone tell me about spastic colitis and give me some insight on this type of IBS.

2) Does any have achey joints?  My ankles and fingers ache all the time!!! I did test postive for arthritis associated with IBD - HLA -B27 however I do not go back to doc til September to hear what this means.

Definition of Spastic colitis

Spastic colitis: A common gastrointestinal disorder involving an abnormal condition of gut contractions (motility) characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, mucous in stools, and irregular bowel habits with alternating diarrhea and constipation, symptoms that tend to be chronic and to wax and wane over the years. Although the disorder can cause chronic recurrent discomfort, it does not lead to any serious organ problems.

Making the diagnosis usually involves excluding other illnesses. Treatment is directed toward relief of symptoms and includes changes in diet (eating high fiber and avoiding caffeine, milk products and sweeteners), exercise, relaxation techniques, and medications.

Alternative names include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nervous colon syndrome, and mucus colitis.

This isn't IBD, it's irritable bowel syndrome so you are very lucky to only have this compared what IBD brings. Good luck pal.

It sounds like you DO have IBD, especially if you had the HLA test done and it was positive, and that is likely related to your arthritis. Have you had a colonoscopy? Why did he discontinue the Entocort? Are you on any other medications besides the dicyclomine? Glad to hear that one helps your symptoms!

I really appreciate all the information - I have learned so much from the posts.

I am really unsure as to why the Entocort was stopped.  I wasn't a very good listener with my GI b/c he talked above me and lost me in his lengthy explanations.  The last time I saw him I told him to speak simple.  That is when he told me I had IBS.  I thought I had IBD since March, glad he cleared that up. He sent me to a rhemy for the achey joints, that is why I had blood work done.  I will go back in September to see that doc. 

I am not as crampy as I once was however I think my 20 mg of proztac isn't keeping me upbeat but my general doctor doesn't want to up the dosage - doesn't want to mask any symptoms I might have for now. I am just sitting in confusion...do my ankles and hands really ache or am I getting depressed with always feeling tired.Sorry to unload.

I do appreciate all the knowledge and personal experiences that everyone shares!!!
