Hey all, just wanted to give you all a chuckle or two. At my expense.
So much for that "illusion of a normal GI tract" approach.....
That was working fairly well, along with my low residue diet, Colace each night, etc., etc.
Until Hurricane Ike went north into the Ohio Valley and my area, Cincinnati, OH on Sunday, Sept. 14. We had a freak 3 hour windstorm, with sustained wind gusts of up to 84 MPH! We had 90% of Cincinnati in the dark (Louisville - KY, Dayton and Columbus - OH were all hit hard too).......trees toppled onto transformers, on houses, cars, sadly on people (5 lost their lives), stores and gas stations closed, schools closed, some all week long. There are still customers w/o power as I type but it's a very small percentage now. Our power had been out for 19 hours. By the time it was restored, many people had lost hundreds of $ in food, restaurants and grocery stores had to pitch so much food. Authorities said not to risk food poisoning.
So, I was pretty freaked out at eating! My "white diet" dwindled here at home. My bananas ran out, I needed a simple Stouffer's turkey and mashed potato meal in the worst way....but my freezer held ice cubes, blue ice for our cooler, garlic bread and a bag of frozen vegetable (we had restocked but I didn't trust any meat in any grocery store).
It's a terrible thing when your trust is shaken.
So, we had stuffed peppers one night made with white rice and tuna.
The next night I made a dish I serve over toast out of either turkey or chicken (usually fresh). I used Swanson's canned chicken.
I finally broke down and bought Amish chicken breasts yesterday. I had my return to normal meal, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, etc.
So far, so good, knock on wood......LOL!!!
I've always joked if I ever get food poisoning, you might as well admit me to the hospital with an IV bag. I will be a major mess....
And oh yeah, I have had 2 bananas already.
White diet here I come.....I was so out of whack by Saturday I wanted a calm, quiet day yesterday. My hubby joked - what you need are your white foods! I said, yes I do! All white, thank you very much......
It's just a darn good thing I like plain, comfort food. If not, I'd be miserable eating this way....he he!
Thanks for reading. Nothing like a major power outage to throw everything off in the IBS like puzzle I solve each day. What fun - not!
Oh to have a normal gut.....yeah, in a perfect world. I wish we ALL had normal guts!
