Colonoscopy and Colon Irrigation (hydrotherapy)

I'm getting ready for my first colonoscopy in a couple of days, and I want to avoid the harsh laxatives and purgatives.

1) Two days before the procedure, I'm starting a liquid diet
2) Also, on those two days, I'm having a daily colon irrigation
3) On the day of the colonoscopy, I may have another colon irrigation in the morning (I haven't decided on this third irrigation yet)

Does anyone out there have any experience with this approach? Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Be easier to just take the drugs and get it all over with in a few hours IMHO.

I also am having a colonoscopy in 2 weeks.  I don't want to go through the harsh purge either.  Does a colon irrigation, colonic, clean out the entire colon or just the sigmoid and rectom?  Never had one done.  I think that I am going to do the liquid diet for 2 days and then do Miralax with gatorade the day before.  Your supposed to take Dulcolax tabs with that prep but I heard Dulcolax is very harsh.

Have you discussed your prep plans with your doc? They are usually very fussy and insist that you use their preferred method or they won't perform the procedure. Your doc may have had other patients that tried your idea or may have read about it. You can still do what you want and tell your doc you followed their procedure.

Does a colon irrigation clean the entire colon? Many docs will just stop the procedure if you aren't clean enough for them. Then you have to do the whole thing over again. It can be expensive.

Does the person that is going to do the colon irrigation have any first hand experience with people using the irrigations in place of the standard preps?

If you decide to do this, please come back and let us know how it turned out.

Colonic hydrotherapy does not clean out the whole bowel. IMO best to stick to what the doctor has advised.
