Hi, I usually post on depression forum.  I have recently had a long bout with diverticulitis and wondered if anyone can give me an answer or reply.  I don't know if this is the right place to be posting my problem.  I got diverticulitis the beginning of Aug. Was on antibiotics for 10 days and improved. May have gone back to my regular diet too soon and it came back with a vengeance. I was in the hospital for 6 days. Had 2 CT scans and I have an abcess. It is in a bad place and cannot be drained so I have to have surgery in about 8 weeks. Have several dr appts. before, have to have another CT scan and a colonoscopy. I still have a bit of cramping on my left side and don't know if that is normal considering my circumstances. I am scared. I have never been this sick before.  I am worried about the surgery. I have to be in the hospital for about a week until my colon heals and I can start eating again and have my bowels working again.  Has anyone else had diverticulitis or an abcess?  Drs. only tell you what is necessary and always seem to be in a hurry and never fully answer my questions.  If anyone can help or reply to me I would very much appreciate it.

Aurora,  I had diverticulitis and was hospitalized many times for it.  Very painful, then they did a colon resection but I was lucky if they had to take 2 more inches I would have ended up with a colostomy.  I had the surgery in 2004 and since then I have had problems at the place they reconnected me, things tend to get stuck there and wont move.  Wich in turn cause pain and swelling but I dont know if that happens for the majority.  Maybe it is just my luck, so talk to your doc if he is going to do a resection, ask any and all questions you can think of. Leslie, Thank you for your reply.  Those are some very good questions for me to ask my dr. I have to have the abcess and any other pockets cut out but the surgeon didn't mention taking so much that I would need a colostomy.  I will ask him and also ask about the area where the resectioning is.  I am going to follow a very careful diet.  I had been eating stawberries all summer and found out that the tiny seeds really stick to any diverticulosis pocket which can get infected.  I can't eat any berries, nuts, seeds or popcorn.  I had eaten walnuts and popcorn before my 1st attack and I wonder if that and the berries was the cause.  Well, I don't want to repeat this agony so I will be very careful in the future.  I appreciate you taking the time to tell me of your experience. It truly helps when people with similar problems provide a reply. Thanks again.
