gutastrophe - I have to agree with you. Nothing does work in the long term (although you're in the C camp, I'm in the D camp). I manage quite well about 75% of the time but I've noticed that no matter what I do (behave with my diet and meds, etc. or eat foods I know I shouldn't), my body seems to go thru its own wacky clean out every so often. Once a week sometimes, sometimes longer spells (twice a month). And I find that when my body gets into this natural purge it's best to let it finish. But like you I don't think there is a cure. It seems to be a combination of several things for me - diet, low stress, meds, exercise.
The only thing that I know works without fail for me is to skip food. This isn't good! But sometimes I skip a meal before an important social function. Sometimes I feel as if food is the enemy. Sigh.......
