RE: Probiotics: I have been taking various Probiotics for several years and have recently seen a new gastroenterologist who prescribed VSLIII (Walgreen's either has it in stock or will order it). It has made a very positive change in my IBS symptoms of both constipation and diarrhea. There is a website for it and he prescribed 2 @ morning. It is a bit more money than most--$42 for 30 days but it's been so worth it for me.
RE: Colon cleanse: I have had two MDs and a chiropractor tell me to stay away from those for now until or maybe never your intestinal track shows some sort of healing. So many people start a colon cleanse with an irritated intestinal track and that just makes it worse. So I'm waiting on that one and since the VSLIII is doing a good job for me, I may never do a colon cleanse.
I wonder if this disorder every disappears completely. I had a very simple dinner out last night--fettucinne (sauce on the side) with grilled chicken strips, small amount of salad w/vinagarette dressing on the side and I had no unusual problems this morning. However, I have found if I went out and ate the same thing another night, I could awake the next morning and spend hours in the bathroom so I just don't get it...
I love this forum and all of its information. It's comforting to know that this disorder is not just affecting one person--but with all the people it affects, why can't they find a cure???
