What is the purpose of having a coloscopy?

Especially in spastic case?

It can show IBS & Diverticuloses,among other things........

It won't show IBS, because IBS is based on a specific cluster of symptoms minus red flags.

But it can help to show its not something else like IBD conditions and Diverticuloses or even other problems.

In a way its used to rule out other conditions, which are not IBS and too get a good look at the colon.

Spasman it is a diagnotic tool to physically look at the colon for abnormalities, such as IBD, polyps, diver, cancer and other conditions that effect the colon.

In IBS the colon would look normal with a colonoscopy.

Spasman, did you doctor want you to have the test?

Did you ever have a sitz marker test yet?

My dad died of colon cancer because he wouldn't go get a colonoscopy and they could have saved him. If your doctor recommend it, I would do it. It also somewhat depends on your age.

You know- I have to have one of these just because of my age this year and I am feeling reather embarrassed. I know the doctor's and nurses that perform these have seen it all and I guess heard it all but what if you pass wind? Yikes why do we have to go through these things?

I had one and the doctor brought in this gourgeous blonde doctor and asked if she could watch. I was already preped and lying there with my butt exposed. I said sure, what the hell. They have seen it all and there is no reason to be embarrassed. Its an important test that can save lives.
