I am going to the GI doctor on Monday for hemroids. This is my first time to have this problem. These hemroids right now have not been bleeding. What can I expect him to do for me? I am so afraid and don't no what to expect at this first visit. Will he do something simple for the first time hemroids or will he want to do all that other stuff that I have been reading about? I have totally messed my IBS up being so upset about going. Someone please help calm my nerves.

If your doctor will perform an exam (gentle dilation, visual examination of lower bowel area), I would imagine he'd have you do an enema before hand. Since you haven't mentioned an enema prep order, I'm not sure exactly what he'll do (exam wise). He might just also do a digital exam with his hand/finger (sounds gross and while uncomfortable, it doesn't induce sharp pain), to determine if he can feel a hemorroid or two.

I've had lots of procedures - digital exams, visual exams, Flexible-Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopies. Again, since you didn't mention any sort of prep (enema, etc.), perhaps his exam will be minimal. He might also order more extensive testing after this initial appt. on Monday.

If his office is open on Saturdays, perhaps calling his nurse might ease some of your fears. Otherwise, try your best to relax and definitely keep your appt.

Also, I'd just be up front with him and tell him you're very nervous. He'll likely calm your fears right away by just telling you what he plans to do, exam wise.

I should add that it's been my personal observation that this particular forum - IBS - is not very active. I've often noticed that while Shawn is excellent in responding and providing useful info, he might be the only one to post on this forum - for days. I don't know why this is. Sometimes I read the Ostomy and Ulcerative Colitis forums more often, they are very active, and I can glean info from their forums since they're so busy.

So might I at least suggest you look at these other forums. There might be past topics which would answer your questions.

There have been times I've deleted this bookmark because this IBS forum is inactive but then I find myself wandering back in.

I would like to gently encourage anyone lurking out there to join, post and comment. We won't bite!

Im a newbi mostly joined for anxiety forum,,,,, but all my anxiety issues were caused by ibs-d, colitis so i think im can be helpfull in this forum as well :) No worries about the hemroid first consult. The Dr will look and def insert finger to see if they are inner hemroids or outter. Most likely set up an apointment to have a better peek by sigmoid or colonoscopy. Im sure he will give you a few cremes to help get them to chill out. Very easy, the most uncomfortable part is the embarassment (for me). Now my problem is I had let mine go so long without treatment I developed blood clots in them (thrombosis). When i walked in I could barely walk they were pussing and bleeding. Dr had to numb them right then by needle and cut out 9 blood clots from the 9 roids. I have never met anyone who had to do this, so its kinda uncommon. If this was the case then def prepare for pain. Again most likely just a little peek, some meds, and your on your way! Take good care of them bad boys dont let them go long with out treatment! Sitz baths, dry well, cremes, and most important fiber/good diet!
