Thanks and I will! However, if I post tomorrow and it sounds like I'm whining please remember I'll be fasting and...well..I probably will be whining.

Stupid question. Is it recommended that a person not exercise on the day that they're fasting? And I'm assuming it's out for the day of the procedure as well.

Exercising is up to you on the day of the prep but you probably would just have to drink more fluids to keep yourself hydrated as the prep can dehydrate you pretty quick. Personally, I would forgo the exercise at least until the day after the scope. And no, not the day of. You will be slightly uncoordinated from the anesthesia and you might hurt yourself.

Well, after taking my prep solution for 50 minutes I was feeling nauceous so I stopped taking it for 30 minutes and then I took another glass and after a couple of minutes I tossed my cookies. Is this bad? Also, I've yet to have a BM.

That is really some foul tasting solution you have to drink. Have to finish the rest in the morning starting at 6:35 am. Hope to finish it all and have a BM at least as well.

I'm on the morning of my colonoscopy and finishing up the liquid I have to drink for prep. When I go to the bathroom is it suppose to be clear or can it be cloudy or...

The procedure went without a hitch! After which the Dr. told me he found nothing out of the ordinary and that I'm OK for the next ten years. I'm writing a narrative for my records which I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to post here, or not. Suggestions anyone? Moderators?

What sort of narrative do you have in mind? The whole experience of the scope?

The procedure from when I arrived at the clinic to when I left. I don't remember anything about the procedure itself because I was put under or whatever it's called.

You can if you like. Create a new post and write about your experience......who knows? Maybe it will help someone who is having their first scope and will tell them more of what they are going to experience.

I was just wondering. I remember reading somewhere that when a few people recalled their experiences on having a colonoscopy they were conscious during the procedure and viewed what was going on on the monitor but during my procedure I was out and don't remember a thing. Is this a recent development that the patient is "knocked out" or does this vary by clinic or...

Most doctors prefer that you are sedated but the patient can choose light sedation over complete sedation. For me personally? Knock me out! :) I had my first one while under light sedation and never ever again will I do that. It hurt no matter how much pain med they gave me.

I'm so thankful someone started this post!! I just had an appointment with a new GI doctor yesterday, and I am now scheduled for a colonoscopy next Thursday.  I admit I'm pretty terrified at the thought of the entire procedure.  Since I have had prior abdominal surgeries, I will be completely put under.

My question is how much pain/discomfort is there afterwards? and I work nights (3rd shift) My procedure is scheduled for 6am, how soon are you up and around, able to drive? I know my husband will need to drive me home after, but I'm wondering if I will be able to work the same day.  Did anyone else work? or participate in activities later in the day or evening?

I didn't have any pain of discomfort after the procedure at all! I was told that I wouldn't be able to go back to work until the next day so I think going back to work later that night is out of the question but be sure to ask your doctor. As for being able to participate in any activities later in the day or evening, I doubt it. The after effects of the sedative lasted the rest of the day and I wasn't able to drive until the next day and they drilled the driving bit into me. I'm an early riser and the next day was a Saturday and I was very careful driving around the day after my procedure at least until I was sure of myself.

I have someone covering my shift just in case I'm really out of it, and it sounds like it is best to stay home! After the doctor explained the procedure somewhat, I imagined it being painful to walk around after since the scope thing sounded a bit uncomfortable to say the least! Glad to hear you did well!

You might get some extra pent up air after the scope but normally within 24 hours, that is gone. It doesn't really hurt, it's just a little uncomfortable. Also, depending on if the doc takes biopsies for whatever reason you might be a little tender in the biopsy areas.

Puritan is right. You will not be allowed to drive for 24 hours and they recommend you do not sign any legal papers for 72 hours because your judgment may be a bit off. I had a scope done last Tuesday and my whole day was like swiss cheese. I remember some parts but the rest is nothing but holes.

I think the worse part of the scope is the prep. Which prep are you using?
