 I am uneasy taking a lot of over the counter meds.  My question is, when going away for the day, will taking an imodium be harmful if you don't have diarrhea at the time.  I am to the point I don't want to leave the house, just in case.  I have anxiety and stress problems as well as the IBS symptoms.  I am sure that the stress and anxiety is what is causing the digestive issue.

Immodium is usually taken after a loose bowel movement. However, some people with chronic diarrhea take it on a schedule. Depending on which Immodium product your are taking, make sure you don't exceed the daily recommended dose.

Are you getting help for your anxiety and stress? Perhaps if that is manged, the diarrhea will become less frequent.

 Thanks for responding.  Yes, I have been on medication for anxiety for years.  The stress is caused by daily living situations.  I have always said that if I could get rid of the stress I wouldn't have anxiety problems.

I know how you feel about leaving the house, I dont take immodium but I get the perscription LOmotil and I take one every morning after my BM's and I'm great for the rest of the day.  I never worry about looking for bathrooms while I'm out, it stops the urges, cramping and calms my stomach. 

 My GI has no problem with taking it every day he even wrote it for me to take more than one a day  but i have never needed more than one.

I dont use immodium because I find it causes bloating and pain, plus its not covered by my insurance so the LOmotil is much cheaper and works so much better.

Some people do take imodium as a preventitive if they are going somewhere and are anxious about having the rush to the loo. As long as you stick to the recommended dosage, it shouldn't be a problem.
