Depression meds for IBS?

I usually post in the GERD section. I had an EGD last week Thursday. I called to get my results today and the dr wants to put me on imipramine for IBS which was never discussed as a diagnosis. The nurse said it slows the system down but I'm also on domperidone to help speed things up. I'm so confused, waiting for a call back about this. Has anyone taken this medication for IBS?

I have neer heard of this medication. Make sure you discuss everything you want to about the medication before you strart taking it. I know that it i a trycicylic antidepressant but dont know much about the effects ithas on ibs symptoms.

Thank you for the reply. The nurse called back this morning and said it's given for stomach pain. I told her I'm concerned it will counter act my domperidone and she said to give it a week trial run and see how it goes.

I take domperidone also, for nausea. Just check the leaflet that comes with it and if her are any drug interactions, it shold say on there. Hope it helps.

Domperidone is a god send! I couldn't eat without it. But now they can't make it in the states so I have to order from Canada. I talked to my friend who is a pharmacy tech...she was discussing with the pharmacist...said it's ok to take them together but to take the new med at bedtime because it causes drowsiness. I'm going to try it and see how it works and I can keep updating.
