I only get the spasms after exercising, never during the night. The come on slow, peak at an excruciating level where I feel dizzy and nauseous (sitting on the toilet does seem to help) then it slowly goes and I feel no pain whatsoever after about 15 minutes. Anyone else have it after exercise?
I used get this pain after running a lot. Every once in a while I get it so bad that it wakes me up at night, too, but the worst episodes are always after a run since they occur about
15 minutes post-run when I'm trying to move on with the rest of my day (UGH). I'm SO HAPPY I found this forum, and I can't thank everyone enough for sharing your stories. I really thought I was suffering alone. I once asked the OB/GYN about
the pain and he looked at me like I was crazy and said "Ummm, no. I've never heard of anything like that." and that was it. I was so embarrassed. Last year I went to see a gastroenterologist who did a colonoscopy on me, which showed no abnormalities, and he said he'd never heard of anything like it and had no idea what it could be. I resigned myself to suffer alone.
The episodes have really decreased in the last several months, however. Two things have changed:
1. I quit my very high stress job to become a stay at home mom and
2. I went on Cymbalta for depression/ anxiety. I think I've had only maybe 2 episodes in the last few months. Thank the Lord! One other embarrassing thing that started happening was, er, leakage when I was running. I don't know if it's tied to this or not, but it's really and awful and making me want quit running entirely. :(
