I have a GERD sufferer my whole life but there was a time that I had severe IBS and it took a lot of trial and error by a dedicated doctor to solve it. Years ago I got a C. Difficile intestinal infection after taking antibiotics. It took a long time to get rid of it (three courses of Vancomycin) and then I was left with intestinal spasms and diarrhea every day for months. I lost so much weight I turned into a toothpick. The GI specialist tried a few standard drugs for IBS like Librax but they didn't help. I was in such a panic it only made it worse. The Xanax he gave me for panic didn't help either. Finally we happened upon the winning combination of .75 mg Elavil (lower dosages didn't do it) and OTC Immodium daily. This finally stopped me up and over a period of about 2 years I was able to wean off both.
So just throwing this out there if anyone else has spastic colon which is what I was diagnosed with.
