I happened upon this site when searching for info on bloating and lower abdominal pain. In June I went to the Dr. thinking I had a UTI, but test was negative. My dr pushed around on my abdomen it was painful on my lower left side (did not hurt there until Dr pushed on the area) Dr. said I had diverticulitis and put me on two awful antibiotics. I had a cat scan and the only thing found was an ovarian cyst on my right side and uterine fibroids. I was told by my primary dr and by gyn that the uterine fibroids were too small to cause pain. about a month later I had the same pain and went to ER, had another cat scan and it was negative for diverticulitis. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, pain started again. I went to new dr and she wants me to see GI dr. My appointment with GI is not until Dec 5. I have had the pain on and off for the past 2 weeks. It is always the lower left side, almost groin area. Sometimes lower right back pain. I went to after hours clinic yesterday primarily for lower back pain and he prescribed Flexeril.
I feel bloated and lower left side pain. This is the strange thing, I felt fine at work today and when I came home and changed out of work clothes (tight fitting jeans) and put on sweat shorts, the pain started again - very painful. So no pain while wearing tight pants, but pain when I changed out of them.
When I went to Dr last week I asked her about IBS and she said it was not IBS because I would get the pain/pressure shortly after eating, which is not the case with me. Pressing on the area does not increase the pain. No problems with diaharea, but constipation (I'm taking Miralax for constipation)
I am post menepausal and take medication for low thyroid, cholesteral and hypertension. I am not overweight.
I am at my wits end with this pain. I spent most of Thanksgiving weekend at home in loose pants with a heating pad on my abdomen. And I can't get in to see GI Dr until next week.
I have been taking Flexeril but am wondering if bentyl would be better.
Can any of you who have been diagnosed with IBS tell me if my symptoms sound like it could be IBS. As I mentioned, my dr said IBS symptoms would be shortly after eating a meal.
Any suggestions, ideas will be greatly appreciated.
