Hi,
I'm a 52 year old female who has been experiencing this pain sporadically for a few years now. I've found a way to sort of manage it - although sometimes it catches me offguard and then I have had to ride out the excruciating pain -
Last night I had an episode and I was ready for it: I found that a hemorrhoid suppository with an analgesic inserted at the first instant of pain (I was awakened abruptly last night with the first shooting spasm), coupled with a low-dose liqui-gel pain-killer (I use Advil liquigels - 200 mg.) made the pain nearly bearable. I was able to go back to bed, and the pain subsided quite quickly. I was able to go back to sleep.
The trick is to not ignore that first indicator - get up straight away and use the aforementioned method.
I'm not saying this will work for every incidence, but it definitely helped me last night.
I read that touching your toes helps to stretch out the anal muscle and that does, to some degree, but the pain can be so intense that bending over might be difficult. Again, I think doing this at the onset could prove useful.
I hope this helps anyone who suffers as I do. I used to get up and walk circuits around my living and dining room (unbeknownst to my husband, who was sound asleep). It's a lonely time when you are in excruciating pain and you're suffering by yourself.
Try my method and see if it works for you!
All the best,
Kat
