My flexible sigmoidoscopy from 2013.
Scope: showed proctitis and fecal impaction/constipation.
Biopsy report: "mild nonspecific reactive changes including edema and congestion of the lamina propria with focal surface hyperplastic features."

My colonoscopy from 2012.
Scope: descending colon mucosa is "erythematous, hemorrhagic, ulcerated, and to show loss of vascular markings suggestive of stercoral ulcers due to constipation."
Biopsy report: "Descending colon, biopsy: Colonic mucosa with edema and hemorrhage."

I'm not sure what these results mean. Can these results show up in IBS?

As I'm sure you've been told on the UC forum, these findings are consistent with INFLAMMATORY bowel disease. IBS is Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which typically is not associated with any pathology like ulcers, inflammation or edema.

Anytime you see "Proctitis" or "Ulceration" on a test result, I'm sad to say its IBD and not IBS. IBS does not present that way.

The doc from the colonoscopy said the ulcers were from constipation/stool pressing on the colon. He said to take Miralax. The colonoscopy pathology report said there was no sign of IBD.

The doc who did the flex sig basically said the same thing. The path report said there was no microscopic or lymphocytic colitis. It didn't say anything about other forms of IBD.

Can you have IBD with out anything showing up on the path report?

I must disagree with the others. Your pathology is seen in chronic constipation. The pressure of the feces pushing on the mucosa [lining of colon] can cause the redness and ulceration etc. I had very similar path results following a bout of ischemic colitis, basically a stroke in an artery flowing to the colon.

You really need to get your constipation under control. Serious damage can occur if there is continuous pressure on areas in the colon.

Sorry for asking these questions. Which pathology report is seen in constipation? The colonoscopy or the flex sig?

I just wish I knew what is causing my constipation. I don't like Miralax. I like docusate sodium better.
