Hello C-Diff sufferers, I am posting this message to try to help those afflicted with this disease because I know how you feel. I had it for about 2 months and it is both physically and mentally degrading. I want to get this out there because I know how desperate I was and that I would go to any length for a cure. Even pay these parasites who charge you and say they are cured so they can get you to buy their book or something else. Don't waste your money on them. Even if they were cured doesn't mean theirs or my cure will be yours. Each person is different and your cure depends on your individual body's acceptance. My cure may work for you or maybe you can devise your own treatment based off of mine that might work for you. All in all, try to stay positive that there will be a cure for you and don't give up the fight! Sooo..... This is my story.
I started out with watery diarrhea and stomach cramps for a week and went to my primary care physician (php) to get a quick fix with antibiotics since they always seem to work and the Imodium AD didn't. He gave me a script for Cipro and I took the full course with the symptoms present at the end of that treatment. At that point I thought I might have an amoeba. I spoke with an Indian friend and he recommended a treatment from his country. I tried it and it worked for a few days. It was 2 tablespoon of Neem Oil in the morning on an empty stomach and yogurt after. This was to kill any parasites. After the symptoms came back, I didn't fool around and scheduled an appt. with a GI specialist. At this time I had the symtoms for 3 weeks. He didn't do any lab tests at that time but scheduled them. He gave me a script for Flagyl (500mg. 3x/day). He may have suspected I may have had c diff and started treating it just the same and mentioned that it would kill any parasites too. There was no restrictions on my diet so I was still eating regularly and the Flagyl was not working. The results came back positive for C-Diff and I had no idea what that was until I read articles on the web about it and I was shocked. I was actually happy that I didn't have hepatitis or cancer but when I read about people having it for a year or more and relapses, then it scared me BUT it can be cured so there was hope. At that point, the symtoms were about the same as I read more web articles about probiotics. I started eating things I little by little to see what my body would accept. I went back to the GIP and called in a script for Vancomycin that cost $1000 since I was in the "coverage hole" of my Medicare plan. After trying to unsuccessfully enroll in any patient assist programs to hopefully get meds at low cost or free, the nurse was able to find a compounding pharmacy that made liquid Vancomycin for about $120. (Try that if your script is expensive). Not to mention that the next step would have been Dificid @ $3500 if the Vancomycin didn't work and there is no guarantee that either will work. My plan included going all the way though the "poop" pills.
So at this point I am still having syptoms at the beginning of the 2 weeks of the Vancomycin treatment was when I started adjusting my diet at this time...
Starting with just 2 doses of Imodium AD in the morning and small portions of chicken soup, apples, pears, grapes and baked or MW potato. After 2 days I started to have soft unformed stools. I stopped taking the Imodium and stocked up on Dannon vanilla yogurt by the 32 oz. containers. I didn't go hungry but had a limited menu. After day 2, I was able to eat an egg (scrambled w/a little water or fried/poached egg), toast, yogurt and an apple. If I got hungry throughout the day I would eat an apple, pear or grapes and more yogurt. Lunch and/or supper I would eat a grilled ham and individually wrapped cheese on Rye bread and sauerkraut (like a Reuben sandwich). Sauerkraut is a good probiotic food.
My stools were now forming but always soft. I was able to have 2 cups of coffee per day but it is not recommended so if you don't like it you're better off without it (and alcohol). At day 4, I introduced a small Stouffer's fish fillet TV dinner w/cheese noodles, small can of Chefboyardee Ravioli/Beefaroni and boiled Noodles with margarine/garlic salt or melted cheese. Keep in mind it's not necessarily the taste but think of the cure. Also one of the best dinners I had was a baked potato topped with whipped Philadelphia Cream Cheese, margarine, diced ham and grated cheddar cheese. I was able to maintain my weight with this. Yogurt, yogurt and more yogurt and solid fruits. Stay away from acid type fruits (oranges and grapefruit etc.) Along with the food I was taking liquid Acidophilus and/or Health Care (mfr) Acidophilus Plus with L. bugaricuscus capsules and Natures Bounty Probiotic (mfr) pills rotating all of them each day. I was able to pick these up at the grocery store. I stayed with this menu during the 2 week treatment of Vancomycin and 1 week after when I went back to the lab and tested NEGATIVE for C-Diff. getting the best of both the medical and probiotic natural treatment for this disease. I continue to take the yogurt and the probiotic pills for maintenance. I don't know if this helped but I started back on my pain medication that used to constipate me. Now I have normal bowel movements even after having to take a laxative for a colonoscopy producing water for a day. Prognosis was no C-Diff but had an ulcer in my colon.
Sooo....there you have it. I am good for almost 3 weeks now. I hope this works for you so you don't have to fumble around like I did to find out what works for you. You may have to try different things for your diet to see what works and always try to have a "back up" plan ready. Stay positive. This will help your physical well being. THERE IS A CURE. You just haven't found it yet. Keep thinking that it will happen. Please let me know if this works for you or whatever worked for you try to post it for someone else. Good luck for your recovery!
My backup plan was to add Pyrophylite Clay, Saccharomyces Boulardii and certain types of yeast and maybe oxysilver. Here is a web site where you can get these items if you can't find them locally. www.healthyworldstore.com 888-923-9936 or 888-508-4747. There is also a web site where a study by Dr. Louie produced "poop" pills that were very successful with really stubborn cases that lasted 6 months and more. If you need the web address, post me for it and I will post back with it.
