Depo provera shot and cause of IBS?

I had the Depo Provera shot for a year when I was 17 (as I forgot to take my pills). Before then I had no stomach problems. I came off it at 18 and seem to have suffered with my stomach every since. I have been diagnosed with IBS and GERD (the GERD is worse than the IBS). I just wondered if anyone else has found a link between the shot or BC and their IBS?

My hormones definitely play a role as I am always worse just before my period, the first couple of days and when I start my pill again. I was also very bad last year when I came off the BCP for a while.

I just wondered if the shot has caused permanent damage to my gut?

My daughter developed IBS long before she went on any birth control pill, so although it may be a trigger for some, it's definitely not a cause. IBS can start at young ages long before using birth control. I've heard that IBS can have a hereditary factor too, my daughter, a half sister and myself all have IBS I come from a big family of half siblings and only one that I mentioned besides myself has IBS.
