Good evening,
I had a colonoscopy last week, which showed inflammation in my rectum, but the rest of my colon seemed fine. The lady who did my colonoscopy said it could be due to taking the prep?
I'm awaiting biopsy results, just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation? Thanks smile

Yes, I've had colonoscopies that note a very mild red coloration seen that could either be irritation from the colonoscopy prep or very minor inflammation. The biopsies will clarify what exactly it is. In my case it was directly caused by the prep. Irritation from a colonoscopy prep is very superficial and shallow and distinct within a biopsy. Inflammation (whether from an infection or an IBD cause) is much deeper into the tissue and shows more changes when seen through a microscope for biopsy slides.

They might have the biopsy results by now, you should call and ask.

Thank you for your reply. Since then I've had blood in stool. I will phone them and see what the biopsy has come back with. I am worrying now with me bleeding. Thanks

Blood in stool is often a sign of having an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) like Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's disease. Although blood in stool can also be from a hemorrhoid if you have any history of those.
