Clindamycin and stomach issues?

Hi All,

I am new to this forum, I posted once the night before my colonoscopy in the UC board because I thought that's what I had. To give the briefest background I can, I was over prescribed clindamycin in a short time frame and its been nearly a year of hellish stomach issues. For the first few months it was just intense pain and yellow liquid stool. I have enormous prolapsed hemorrhoids, low blood pressure, and overly fast heart rate at times. I've had a cat-scan, an ultrasound, blood work and a colonoscopy over this year. I've been tested for gluten intolerance and cdiff. Nothing has turn up, I even cried after my colonoscopy knowing there were no new revelations and therefore no help. I'm at my wits end and mentally I go into a very dark place when I try to accept my life is without so many pleasures.

I'll be honest with you I eat poorly. I eat a lot of McDonalds sometimes because it tends to firm my stools (fake food lol). When I go healthy I usually eat baked chicken, green beans and baked potatoes. I've been much to afraid to even try risky foods like pizza, alcohol, coffee, mexican etc. So I exist within plain burgers and plain chicken. Crackers. After my colonoscopy my GI said that he believed that I was at one time sick and have made it worse by sticking to a routine group of foods. I just don't see this as being the case. I still have extreme and awful flare ups that put me in bed if I venture at all far. The last one was from just chow mein, just a relatively bland side dish at panda express. I'm fed up, and to make matters worse today I am constipated. I suppose I misjudged my stomach, thought a flare was coming and ate bread and crackers to stop it. Now I have stomach pain, I go to try to poop and my anus tears and bleeds but nothing comes out, maybe a few tiny bits once in a while. I thought about drinking a small amount of a dairy free coffee (I do so miss pumpkin spice lattes and I can tolerate caffeine) to make myself go, but I fear it will rebound into a hellish flare up. This is all so complicated to me. I don't know how to fix any of it and it has effectively destroyed my life. I feel like a ghost around any normal people, watching them have a beer or their coffee. The biggest regret of my life is taking the second round of clindamycin, I'm not sure if i'll ever be normal again or what exactly is even wrong. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any advice.

Hello ! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you post idk if you remember me but we had our colonoscopy around he same time and we also took the same prep . I’m sorry to hear your still struggling they are a few things I can recommend. For constipation try eating fiber foods wheat bread and bananas seem to help me whenever I’m constipated there is also fiber supplements you can try . Also anxiety can effect your digestive issues as well if you have anyway anxiety try meditating hanging out with a friend get your mind off stuff even try exercise it helps get your digestive issues back on track also if you still keep having problems ask your G i to test you for SIBO Look it up it can cause cause constipation diarrhea cramping same symptoms as Ibs

Let me tell you about my story maybe it will help in any sort of way your not alone after my colonoscopy came back clear I thought I was out of the woods . But then my nurse called me and said biopsies found mild inflammation that could have been caused by the prep but I had to wait a week to talk to my g I about it because he was on vacation after a week of me thinking I have IBD I go see my doctor and he tells me everything is fine . There’s no sign of That IBD in my colon I was relieved. He said no More test unless I have serious symptoms of Chrons in my small intenstine like vomiting weight loss bloating etc I don’t have those but I still do have annoying symptoms. Excessive gas . Excessive stomach noises ( so annoying btw ) and diarrhea maybe 3 times a week sometimes 4 but rarely . Usually the diarrhea is a couple hours after my meal it’s so frustrating I too am afraid to eat certain because it’ll cause my diarrhea things but I eat them anyway whenever I have diarrhea my mind tries to convince me that it’s something serious like Chrons my head gets to the best of me sometimes still . I wish everyday that I can go back to back to the way I was no stomach noises not worrying about diarrhea. I’m 25 years old with gut issues it’s so frustrating I wish I can go back to the way I was when I didn’t worry about what I eat . When I don’t look at the clock a couple hours after I eat expecting diarrhea I want to go back to my G I to do more test but I can’t really afford it unless completely nessisary I have no pain or nothing which is good but the stomach noises and the diarrhea get to me I usually only have about 1-3 bowel movements a day so it’s not like it’s debilitating it’s just annoying 70% of the time it’s formed unless I drink a lot of alcohol anyway I’m sorry to tell you about my long story it just want to say your not alone. . I used to take. A lot of anti inflammatory medicine for my bad back and used to take. A lot fat burners to lose weight maybe that’s why my stomach is so jacked up if I can go back I’d stop myself from taking those . I learned when I do something to completely take my mind off my stomach it’s not so bad no stomach noises or nothing

I definitely remember you. I'm sorry you're going through this as well, I really am. I am in my 20s as well, a bit older at 29. It's been a tough month because October is my favorite time of year, I'm one of those nutty people who decks out the whole house. Usually my friends come over a few times and we have a few drinks, pizza candy and horror movies. I can eat candy surprisingly enough but nothing else. I do think I've gotten a bit better, I would have bet money at the beginning of this that I had something extreme like Crohns or Cdiff. But I still get blindsided sometimes by flare ups which come with the most intense stomach pain and burning stools. Sometimes it's so bad I have to talk myself down from the hospital because I know it'll pass. I wish I could go back too. I think about it probably more than is healthy. My GI never explained a single thing to me after my colonoscopy but I do believe I might have SIBO, I've thought about that. Do you know how they test for it? I don't have insurance and the copay for the GI is 300 bucks, way higher than my regular doctor. Thanks for talking with me, it's nice to reach out to people who get it

Borg has given you some great information as he was having some of the same issues. What I will offer up is if you think you have SIBO there is a simple test called "hydrogen breath test". This is how it is diagnosed, no guessing to it. Your primary care dr can get this done at a lab. Try to stay off of Dr Google, as he is rarely right. All that does is increase the anxiety & stress level. Junk food with a finicky gut is a disaster waiting to happen.

Is it possible that you have a food allergy? For example, I have allergy on kiwi. As soon as eat kiwi I get a yellow liquid stool.

Probably you need to clean you digestive system periodicaly. Avoid red meat, eat white chicken meat.
