HI I WAS JUST WOUNDERING WHAT IS A GI DOCTOR

Gastroenterologist.... A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and biliary system.

I HAD A GI DOC BUT WHEN HE FOUND OUT I HAD IBS HE DISCHARGED ME, DO OTHER PEOPLE WITH IBS STILL SEE THERE GI DOC

Yes, you should see a GI. Sometimes you will find a great primary care doctor who you would rather see... That is OK too. But, if you are having a difficult time coping with your IBS, you should be seeing a GI about it. They can usually help decide what sort of treatment and/or coping strategies will be best for you.

Once you are diagnosed with IBS, there is no more that a GI can do than a general doctor so they will often discharge you. Because specialists are limited (specially in smaller communities), they reserve their patient base to gastro diseases. I would though suggest that you talk to your GI doctor about any medications that he might recommend if necessary so you can get that filled and bring the bottle to your general doctor so they can continue on the same treatment.

Sorry Lil, we must have posted at the same time... I have to agree with you. If the IBS is a severe case, I would request to keep seeing your GI specialist. If you are having success controlling your IBS with supplements/medications/diet changes, it probably isn't necessary.

MY IBS IS BAD, AND MY DOCTOR DOESNT SEEM TO BOTHER WITH ME, HOW DO I SEE A GI DOC? DO I ASK MY DOCTER TO REFAIR ME

It depends on your insurance if you need a referral or not. If your doctor can't do anything for you and you can't get relief, you do have a right to ask for a referral and if he/she won't give you one then contact your insurance company yourself to request.

FYI.... If you have PPO insurance you do not need a referral.
