Anyone seen Prime Time Medical Mystery about stomach problem & hormones?

Hi--new here--I have a 14 year old daughter who has been struggling with stomach problems for about 5 years--had her tested for everything under the sun, it seems, and can't pinpoint the problem. My mom called me last week and said she'd seen a Prime Time (ABC) Medical Mystery episode that dealt with a girl who had IBS (or something like it) for a long time, and then they found out she had some sort of hormone problem. That's all she remembers, and I'm having a hard time finding out anything about that particular show. I keep thinking maybe my daughter's problem could be linked to her early puberty onset problems--anyone seen the show, or heard of any links to hormone problems in young women?

We've discussed the possibility of hormones causing IBS or making it worse many times on here. Most women have worse IBS symptoms around the time of their period, have completely different symptoms (sometimes better, sometimes worse) when pregnant, and some have had IBS only as long as they have had "female problems", such as fybroid tumors, endometreosis, ovarian cysts, etc., and when said female problems flare, their IBS flares as well.

My grandma insists my problems are hormone related too. BUT, I've had them check so who knows. I did not see that ABC special. Sorry, I can't help there. However, if you're interested in looking into her hormone levels you might want to see an Endocrinologist. That's who I saw that tested all my levels.

Well here's something to think about...

I've had crohns for 15 yrs now, the first 11 yrs I never had any correlation between how my CD behaved during that time of the month, then the last 4 yrs that's all changed...my GI suspects I also have IBS ontop of having crohns...I know some IBDers (CD/UC) do also complain about problems during their periods, but for myself I find it awfully strange that in 11yrs of flaring with my crohns, my periods did not have any impact...until about 4 yrs ago when my GI suspected that I've also developed IBS. Coincidence, maybe, but there is definitely a connection between hormones and bowel activity, men have hormones too so that could be part of why men get IBS and/or IBD as well...at least I think it's a peice in the big puzzle of it all.

You know, I asked my doc yesterday about why symptoms change during the menstrual cycle & her answer to me was that it is because of the release of prostaglandins during that time. It changes things for everyone - according to her. I don't know how scientifically correct that is because I question everything she tells me, but worth researching.

I am still living in a time warp in Italy, so I am sorry to say I did not catch that Medical Mystery episode (wish I did though).

If you know it was on ABC, you ought to be able to go to their website and request a transcript or a video copy. They should have a listing of their news programs and what was on them so you can pick out the one you want.

You may want to buy the book from Susan Summers.I saw her on TV and she said hormons testing solved her problems.Yes she had bowel problem.I don't how severe it was or if she just fake on national TV but worth buying.
