Anyone try Lactulose for constipation?

I have used it - it was a godsend, as it worked great for a long time, then stopped. I have crohn's (with severe chronic C) though, with strictures in my small bowel. I started at 1 tablespoon and worked up to 4 (per GI) - figured that had to work and it didn't. I would definitely suggest trying it - it won't hurt, could possibly help.

As a strange side note, my g-f in England took me to the chemist where I bought the lactulose over the counter. Came home to do the same and was told it was a prescription med - I still can't figure out why.

Starrnr, I bought Claratin over the counter in Ireland long before it and other allergy meds were de-regulated over here in the U.S. It's all a matter of what a country's version of the FDA thinks is safe for people to use for themselves. That and we have a lot more drug companies over here than anywhere else in the world and they are all over our FDA. One of the reasons why the same drug costs a whole lot less in Canada than in the U.S.... and why drug companies are all over Congress to make it illegal for us to buy drugs in Canada.

Have you tried taking it again lately? Some of the people on here who had good results with Zelnorm, but had it quit working for them after a while, found that after taking a break from it for a few weeks they were able to get it to work for them again.

Hey, I don't blame you on that account. I think I'd be chugging a bottle of prune juice a day if it meant keeping things moving so I didn't have to have surgery. Maybe prune juice with a parasite in it, even, lol.
