Well I have been putting it off for years and years and I think it's time I get it done. But I am so scared. From what I've been told it's the cleansing of your system that is the worst part. Even though I'm used to sitting on the toilet for hours, I'm so not looking foward to that, or to any part of it. I have a consult next Tuesday, and I'm hoping I will not chicken out and "forget" it. Anyone that has had this done....can you share your experience. I just want to be as prepared for it as possible.
Thanks-Kim

It is a walk in the park except for the pooping the night before. Try to get a prep(laxative) that you dont' have to drink gallons of. I did the 4 oz of phospho soda twice in some gatorade. It isn't tasty but it did the trick without drinking so much stuff. Different doctors want differnt things. You will feel so good when it is all over. You really do not have to sit for hours. when you need to go you will go and then eventually it will all be gone. You can check on other messages on this site to see what people prefer to take. The only way you can prepare is to do the prep as suggested and try to relax and make sure the Dr. will sedate you enough to keep you comfortable.

I can't remember if it's Sarita or one of the other ladies who said she buys up a bunch of cheap gossip magazines and some of those crazy papers (you know, where Elvis was returned to Earth by space aliens) and reads those while she's on the toilet for a good laugh. :-D
I don't even think the sitting on the toilet all day is that hard--it's the wiping that ends up getting to you. I suggest some baby wipes or a wash cloth for wiping with so you don't get raw.

Don't be scared, I was also soooooooooooo scared. The second time around for me was a breeze. The sleep is the best part of the colonoscopy.. I had to drink Myra lax. There was no taste of it , I mixed it with snapple ice tea. The worst prep was Go lighty or half lighty ( something like that name ) the first time around . horrible horrible horrible
Calm down , good luck

Well thanks... it doesn't sound too terrible. I'll have to get some good reading material for the night before I guess. Hopefully I will get to choose what type of laxitive I want, Miralax isn't bad, I had the powder stuff to mix in drinks for my toddler, so if he'll drinkit so can I. I think I can do anything that I can mix in other drinks. Maybe I can catch up on some sleep while I'm on the table. What about
um.....flatulance afterwards? LOL, I know my hubby will be cracking up all the way home. Anyhow thanks for calming me down.

I'm with Canyon, I had the Phosphosoda stuff. It doesn't taste "good" but definitely better than Golytely. Try to avoid the gallon stuff at all costs.
Make sure to keep baby wipes handy.
Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I don't seem to recall that I had any gas problem afterwards, but I guess it depends on how much air your dr. puts in there, whether he has any way of getting it out again, and how your body reacts to it as a whole. Since you won't have anything in your guts, I would think it should be smell-free, so fart with abandon! LOL. You'll just hurt and cramp worse if you hold it in.

Funny because my doc said she "sucked" out as much air that she could. I think it worked too because I had very minimal flatulance afterwards. Maybe you could ask your doc about
that prior to the procedure.

I didn't have any problem with gas. They are supposed to try and get as much out as possible. I hope next time I can use the Miralax. My Dr. is pretty good about
trying new things.

Its not bad at all. the prep is no fun, but tollerable. You'll be amazed at how much you get out of your colon. I'm convinced the cleansing is a huge treatment alone. I do suggest getting a hemoroid(sp?) cream of some kind. I use Nupercanal. It is expensive, but amazing. It kept my mom from having hem. surgery, and it really helps more than anything else I've ever tried for irritation. ( i also use it for everyday itches, etc.)
When you go in, they will start an IV. They will take you into a procedure room. they usually/may give you 02, and put a monitor on your finger and blood pressure cuff(maybe). You'll see lots of monitors and tv looking things, and possible see the scopes they use. They will then ask you to lay on your side. they push the meds, you feel a little smilely and things get a little spinny/blurry and they next thing you know, your waking up. I usually always have to relieve the gas a lot, but it goes away in a few hours. My first scope, I slept for hrs. afterward. now I am wide awake shortly after.
I hope this helps, and I hope your test goes well.
PS: drink lots of fluid right up untill your not suppose to have anymore. That helps with cramps, and fatigue. Lots and lots of water and gatoraid. I suggest some gatoraid b/c it give you electrolites, etc. Get some jello or something you enjoy. they should have given you a list of foods you can eat. eat NOTHING RED. They sometimes looks like blood, so its a no no.

i had it done a month ago, they gave me this pills as prep. Not the liquid or powder. I think is a new thing and it worked,
not bad cramps or anything, just had to take the afternoon off and sit at home. Drinking pills every 15 min
with gatorade.
The next day went again bf the procedure and that was it. I didn't feel a thing. The next thing i knew was when this lady was giving me juice and the doc said, that it all looked good no need for biopsy.
I was so hungry i got enough strenght to walk by myself to the nearest Starbucks, even though they wanted me to leave with someone hehe.

That is unusual that they would let you leave alone. That is strictly forbidden around here whenever one has sedation. I am really surprised by that as they are legally liable if they do that. I feel fine after mine but my ride has to sign me out.
