Hi all,
I just had my first colonoscopy done a couple of days ago. For over a year I've had IBS-D like symptoms, and it's been getting worse so I finally decided to put my fears aside and go ahead with the scope. Everything went good at the hospital (it turns out my fears were unwarranted). Although the prep was a pain in the a**. ;)
My question is about waiting for results. During the procedure i woke up and heard the doctor talking about taking a sample for biopsy. Then in recovery I asked a nurse about it and she said samples were taken and I need to make an appointment with the Doctor who did the scope in 3 weeks. I overheard other nurses telling other patients there that they can contact their family doctors about results.
I'm wondering why it takes so long, why some people can go through their family doctors and others come back to the doctor who did the scope. Is 3 weeks a normal time for results. Finally, what sorts of things could he find to take a biopsy of.
Please excuse my ignorance, I have no knowledge about this sort of stuff, and I suppose that's my worst enemy right now.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
