Hey everyone!
I've been gone for awhile - I was pregnant and it totally cleared up my IBS-D since July! I was in the states during my delivery (I had a beautiful baby Boy) and for around 45 days after, then I returned to Bolivia and have basically refrained from eating out ANYWHERE because I don't want to get E-Coli/Shigella/C-Difficile EVER AGAIN!!!!!
Well, I decided to cut back on breastfeeding and have been scared that returning to my normal non-pregnant/nursing state would make the post infectious IBS come back.... and after one week of weaning I am starting to have a few urgent BM's and burning abdomen pain again. My only consolation (this is so sad) is that my 4 year old also has similar symptoms! Maybe we've eaten something contaminated? I've been like this since Friday. I really want to handle the IBS differently this time - I don't want to freak my self out and spend my life glued to the internet! But I was SOOOOO happy to be IBS free for a while!!!!
While I was in the states it was suspected that my nephew has a genetic collogen disorder (Ehler's Danlos Syndrome) and the doctor said that anyone else in our family who has hypermobile joints (I am double jointed in my hands and feet pretty bad) probably also have this syndrome. I have been on those boards and IBS is a pretty common theme there, as well. Apparently people with this disorder don't heal quickly and make thick scars - so this explains why I didn't snap back from my intestinal infections like the other Americans that live down here did! I just wanted to put this info out there in case anyone else has hypermobile joints and IBS!
