I have had a rather panicky start to the day. Just produced a bm and it had a small patch of bright red in it. I did have a tomato sauce based pasta meal last night so hope this might account for it. The sig checked the lower rectum and found some haemorrhoids but no evidence of any growths. Colonoscopy on Dec 12th and it can't come too soon for me if it puts my mind at rest. Good news is that stools have been thicker and no pencils for three days now but, as the saying goes, there's always something and I do hope that tomatoes may be the culprit here. Shan't have any red based foods for a few days and see if the problem recurs.
On another subject, there has been a posting recently about
sharp rectal pain. I found details (can't remember where now) on the net about
a problem called Levator Ani which I believe can cause just such symptoms. Might be worth a look.
Take care, all.

I've never had tomato sauce color my stools red (it wouldn't be bright red anyways). Red Kool-Aid will redden them, and I've even turned mine green from Pistachio ice cream, but no red from tomato sauce (and I had a good deal of that this weekend).
If they've already found hemmroids on you, though, that's almost certainly the culprit. Bleeding higher up in the intestinal tract is darker; hemmroids and anal fissures bleed bright red, kind of like when you're on your period.

I have definately seen tomatoes turn up in the toilet! If a sauce is chunky or has bits of whole tomato, I can't digest it properly. For me, it's the same as corn.

Thanks for those. No red in today's offering anyway. Just a bit of a bad day for crampy discomfort. Hope you are all coping.
