urinary retention

I went to our local ER recently for urinary retention.  I had been on Vicodin for hip pain and had severe constipation plus I could not urinate.  The constipation has since corrected itself however I still cannot void. I went to a local urologist and he said it is temporary condition and it will heal however I am now on a self catherer in order to urinate.  I have looked online to see when this would correct itself time wise but there is no definite answers.  Anyone out there have the same problem and how long did your bladder finally get back to normal?

I did see a urologist the other day and since I'm still not voiding he is going to do a cystocomy next week to see if my prostate gland is so enlarged it's cutting off the urine supply to the uretha and if that's the case he's going to do a procedure called "Greenlight".  He feels confident this is the problem.

Hi, me too, I have LPHS and have noiced over the years the connection to pain meds, constipation and the pain itself can also cause it as it happens when I tolerate up to a high level of pain without medicating and so it seems that there are many variables though hard to keep track at times.

Water intake helps to keep it flowing when pain level is not too high though when it ramps up can't take in the fluids too well;so, I do try to eat a lot of fruit in small amounts and yogurt.

I noticed that I can't void and when I do my kidneys really hurt right after and have to medicate to keep it from ramping up.

Prayer does and has sustained me over many years. Is there anything else in the way of treatment natural or meds aside from the demerol and buscopan and liquid gravol that I can take; as have allergies to ASA(which would not help) Codeine, Morphine, Talwin.

I would like to apply to the Sacral neuromodulation urinary problems. Do not ever discuss it, and above all do not know much about this therapy that can 'improve the quality of life both the problems of retention and urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and constipation, chronic pain and pelvic floor. Sure! Not everyone can be subjected to this kind of system but it certainly is a therapy to be considered rather than catheters made of six times a day as I was forced to do it myself. I'm Italian, I live in Italy and here these ores therapy is not widely publicized. As a patient I have searched the internet a solution to my problem. In Italy, as in the world, we are many and would like to get in touch with people like me bionic.
