First, hello and welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your membership in the kidney stone club...it's a painful one to be sure!
I'm hoping that you have a good Urologist- one that you like and trust, as that's your first step. In regards to your most recent addition, it's difficult to give you a time frame on it's grand exit. It depends upon where the stone is as well as your past history. I'm assuming that it was the 6mm stone that required a lithotripsy before? Also, was the temporary stent placed at that time as a precautionary measure, or did your stone actually cause a renal blockage?
People's bodies process everything differently...even your gender can be a contributing factor. This much I know for sure: since you obviously seem to be prone to kidney stones, it is extremely important to keep regular appointments with your urologist. We do not want to see you have to join the kidney disease club. I would also discuss with your doctor any recommendations he/she may have to help prevent future stones, for example, cutting down on or eliminating caffeine from your diet.
Other than that, keeping the medicines handy is about the best you can do. However, in taking pain meds to mask the pain, please be careful & remember to pay attention to your body. If the pain seems worse than it was with your previous stones, do not hesitate to go to the ER. Even smaller stones can cause a renal blockage.
I hope this is helpful. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have anymore questions. Good luck to you!
Heidi
