My mother-in-law is a dialysis patient for 8 years now due to type 1 diabetese. It had always worked well for her until about
the last year when they started having trouble getting all the fluid off of her. The past month or so she has been in constant chronic pain. None of her doctors have been able to pin down why and she has tried about
every pain killer available with little relief. Finally after another E.R. visit she was told that it is a bone condition that is related to being on dialysis for several years and there is nothing that can be done for it but pain management. She has been on the transplant list the whole time, but has only recieved 3 calls. Once the donor kidney was to badly damaged and twice she was on standby but the primary was a better match. She is in the paired alliance program but has not recieved any calls from them.
My question is has anyone had any experience with the painful condition that she has developed and are there any suggestions on what she may be able to do. My fear is that she is nearing the end of the road and I hate the thought that the last bit of time she has left will be spent in agony. Any suggestions you may have would be very welcome.
