Hi,
I never thought I'd be writing on Healing Well once, let alone twice! I went through prostate cancer 3 years ago. Had prostate removed in 11/15. Now, and age 56 today (Happy Birthday?) I am having what may be even more serious issues. about 4 months ago I noticed it was very foamy and bubbly went I went to the bathroom. Long story short, I had full bloodwork done and a couple different urine tests in the past 2 weeks.
My dipstick and Microscopic urinalysis both showed protein. The micro said 1,000 mg, dipstick said 100.
Dipstick said there was a trace of blood, microspcopic said no blood. All other items were normal or negative. So my doctore then did a "Protein Electrophoresis Random Urine" test.
That showed this:
Creatinine, Urine, Random 117 mg/dL
Protein, Urine, Random 810 mg/dL
Protein, Urine, Normalized 6,923 mg/g creat
Albumin, Random Urine 657.0 mg/dL
Albumin % Random Urine 81 % (Normal range 70 - 100 %)
Gamma Globulin, Urine 153.1 mg/dL
Protein Electrophoresis Interpretation, Urine, Random Negative for Monoclonal light chains.

So my protein is oviously extremely high.

He also did a full bloodwork on me. All kidney functios came back very good. Everything in the normal range, most on the higher (better) side of normal. Howver my cholesterol was very high. Total was 327. Good Cholesterol was good at 80, but LDL 211, Triglicerydes 174.

I am not oevrweight. After going through prostate cancer, I eat VERY well. No fried foods. Rarely eat dairy, lots of veggies. Yet all these propblems.

Does anyone have any input as to what can be going on with me? Is it kindey disease? Can it all be from something that is curable? I am waiting for a kidney specialist referal from my doctor, but in the meantime am super stressed out.

Any input would be appreciated!

I'm new at this too. I have a very high creatinine level plus microscopic blood in my urine. I was finally able to see a renal doctor last Thursday. I was told that my kidneys have low grade inflammation, which is causing them to become leaky; and the leakiness is allowing the creatinine and blood through. I've been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Most likely I have it from having been on mesalamines for my ulcerative colitis.

My condition is being monitored. I have to get tested every six months. My kidneys could function fine for five or 10 years or even longer as long as the inflammation doesn't get worse. But I want to live a lot longer than that, and I know from experience that the inflammation could get worse.

I'm not taking this well. I'd like to reverse this disease. But how to do that? Will detoxing the kidneys help? Will taking anti-inflammatory supplements help? I, too, would like to know.

BTW, I, too, am 56; and I, too, was super stressed out about seeing a renal doctor. I'm still super stressed out about it now that I have a diagnosis.

Oh, yes, the renal department is a very scary place if it includes the dialysis room. Everyone is in wheelchairs. They're too weak to walk. It's way scarier than the chemo department, which I had to go to for my Remicade infusions when I was having an ulcerative colitis flareup.

I hope we can reverse this disease.

Please let us know what your renal doctor says.

I got my appointment set for July 10 with the kidney specialist. I will let you know how it goes. But it’s not easy waiting. Everything you read on the internet just makes it sound worse and worse. I too would like to know if it’s reversabke. And if not, how long can you live with damaged kidneys. I read that ACE inhibitors are sometimes used to stop the protein leak and therefor stop further kidney damage.
Anyone with h experience? Good news would surely be welcomed.
