I've been posting quite a bit about the discoid rash I have.  Yesterday before I went to work I had an idea.  After my 12 hours my face is so hot and flaming it's just awful.  Anyhow I thought about the lights at hospitals...they're all flourescent! I put on some 30+ sunscreen a few times throughout the day. The rash was still apparent and got a bit more defined just from working 12 hours but the burning and heat from it wasn't there!!  It worked well and plus, who couldn't use a smell of sunscreen when it's 20 and snowing in Michigan! 

I wanted to share a plus throughout the minuses of symptoms etc.

Great idea! I live in Michigan, too! I work in a school full of flourescent lighting and I use sunscreen, too!

Woooo Hooooo!!! Lupan Power!!! Great thinking!! I have years where I have to cover EVERYTHING even in the car on a shady, rainy day!! so that makes perfect sense. I bet you'll feel better too. Hmmmmm maybe some sunglasses?? LOL Blessings!

When I moved into my new house, for weeks on end, I would get flushed and hot on my face, silly me, I never thought to notice that all the bulbs in the house were energy saving flourescent bulbs...I changed them all out and things got so much better.

As for the sunscreen issue, I found some that is amazing. It is Hawaiin Tropic Ozone w/ UVA & UVB protection, ans an SPF of 70 plus. I got this before a trip to the beach this summer. I have been using it since, and have had NO rashes at all. It is the best stuff I have found.

Oh, fluorescent lighting is really bad for us.  It's actually something that I wish the health industry would address as a health concern.  Not only for those of us who are basically allergic to it, but for everyone.  It's poison!

 

In Canada, the government plans to phase out the old incandescent lightbulbs in a couple of years.  I'm terrified by that.  I'm stocking up on the old stuff so I never have to put that poison in my home.  I have enough trouble in Walmart or at the grocery store.  I feel physically ill if I'm under them too long.

 

That sunscreen you mentioned Susie, sounds great.  I'm a redhead to boot, so an SPF 70 is perfect for me!  I'll try to find some of that.

Susie THanks!! I have a hard time with any sunscreen I've tried. Feels like its suffocating me. EVen the stuff for faces . . . OY . . . I'll have to try the Hawain Tropic . . . thanks. Ginny!!! OH NO! I started switching over last year!!! I can't believe it!! I'll certainly be looking into it. AKKKKK! Thanks for mentioning this. Urrrrrrrrghhhh!! Blessings!

ROSIE!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Run away!  Run away!!!!!  Turn them off!!!!  LOL....

 

I know they're better for the environment, but I'm sorry, I'm looking out for #1 here when it comes to this!! Seriously guys, they're not good for us!  Try googling "fluorescent lights lupus", or "fluorescent lights health risks".  It's spooky.

Have you ever tried the spray on kind of sunscreen? I love it! I started wearing the kids coppertone (in a turquiose bottle) last summer and I had more clients compliment my on my new perfume. Who knew that a 50 sunscreen could be so sexy?

Ya!  I was the same.  Highschool was brutal. I felt like I needed sunglass or a baseball cap to wear. I didn't put two and two together with the fluorescent light stuff until a few years ago.  Crazy eh.....
