hi Rosie,

I was reading about your digestive problems in another thread. I have been having the same for over a year now. so far we haven't found the source of the problem (colonoscopy). I did learn from the endoscopy that I have a para esophageal hernia. I guess that is a hiatal hernia in which part of the stomack goes into the diaphragm instead of the esophagus like the usual hernia does. That shouldn't be the cause of the symptoms I'm having though.

The next test (this week in fact) is for bacterial overgrowth in the intestines. I will see my GI dr. later in the month to go over all of this stuff. I'm thinking that we will rule out other causes for my symptoms and I will have a dx of IBS. I hope there is some sort of relief given for that!

I hope that the medrol helps with your inflamation. Such choices! Good luck.

Oh . . . so sorry Emmie . . . what a pain!! My pain stems from inflammation in the lower bowel. It seems to be part of my flares now. It showed up in a colonoscopy AFTER I was feeling better. He called it Inflammatory Bowel. When I look it up, it is a precursor to Crohns. I'm sorry your doctors haven't found your problem. IBS is no fun. My SIL has it. If thats what your issue is, you want to do all you can to keep normal bowel rhythm. So your daily eating and eliminating habits become pretty important as well as stress management. *sigh* Its good that your docs are ruling out other causes. I hope they offer you some good information and whatever meds you need to help get you back in shape. I took the pred yesterday evening and again this morning. I actually woke up feeling good!! I got up at 6:45 am feeling READY to get out of bed YEAH!!! We'll see how today goes. If this worked that fast, I'll be totally shocked. I hope you'll let me know how your story unfolds. spoke too soon . . . just had another attack . . . but much milder . . . so it IS working . . . just will take a while. But, at least I'm going in the right direction!!

Hey Emmi!

 

I haven't talked to you in a while!!! Just out of curiosity.  Are you having a hydrogen breath test done?  I get one of them done on the 15th to check for bacteria in my intestines too.  Since my medication allergy in June, I've been having weird gut and bowel symptoms. 

 

Let me know what test you took and what the outcome is okay.  We might be dealing with similare things here.

Hi gals,

Rosie, sorry to hear it flared up right after it was calm. I swear every time we talk out loud or even post about it, we jinx it! Hope you're feeling better now. The wierd thing is, I have been experimenting with my diet by eliminating foods, briinging them back etc. There seems to be no difference in what I eat. Now, my gerd has been acting up so I'm basically afraid to eat anything except bland foods. I did sneak in a few cookies and chocolate over the holidays. They didn't bother me but cookies aren't acidic or spicey and I limited the chocolate (oh, so hard, I love love love it!!!)

Hey Ginny! Nope, we haven't talked for awhile. Guess what...the breath test is the last one I am scheduled for (and it is also for the intestinal bacteria-eeewww--doesn't that sound yucky???). I actually do it this week on Thursday. How is it breathing into a bag every 15 minutes for a few hours? Did you also have to keep written notes about how you felt?

any how, these digestive proablems are so annoying and difficult to pin down. Sorry you both suffer with this, but it's nice to talk with others who know what I mean. Thanks for your help, friends.

I haven't done it yet either!  I do that test on the 15th.  So we'll have to compare our results!  I know, breathing sugar breath into a bag sounds soooo appealing, LOL.  I'm very curious to find out the results.  I have been taking probiotics for about 3 years now, so now I can't take any for the next 2 weeks before this test.  I'm wondering how bad I'd be feeling if I wasn't on the probiotics?  Yikes.  Yes, I"m glad to have you guys to talk to about this as well.  Good support!  I've been dealing with heartburn and some "bile burps" the last couple of months (sorry.  Graphic, but I'm comfortable in telling all you this!).  So yeah, we have out issues don't we.

 

Okay, I'll check in with you after the 3rd, and you can tell me how yours went.  Then I'll tell you mine after the 15th!

Hi all!

My doctors have told me that it is not too unusual to have Crohn's and Lupus as they are both AI diseases. After years of abdominal pain my crohn's was finally diagnosed with a pill cam.  I had inflamation and ulcers in my entire upper intestine. They will not be able to see your upper GI with the colonoscopy so even if you have that done you should make sure to have the pill cam too. I hope this is not what you have but I wanted you to know because I could have saved myself years of pain had I known that I needed that test.

Oh bloody heck, that's the last thing I need.  CHRON'S!!!  Thanks for mentioning it Meg.  I have super regular and normal bm's, and my GI doc doesn't suspect Chron's at all.  I have also been tested for Celiac and I'm okay.  But you can't be too careful right.

 

My stomach and intestine issues started after I had a medication allergy this past June.  The rash I got attacked me on the inside as well as the outside.  It was in my mouth, down my throat, stomach, intestines, bowels, liver.  It was a mess.  So it's very possible I'm still recovering from that.  My docs have said that even in healthy people, a reaction as bad as I had can take a year or longer to fully recover.  NICE EH!!!  (sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm).  These tests are mainly precautionary.  I'm glad I have bulldogs for doctors! LOL.

Hi ladies . . . I AM much better between attacks. But I'm still having the gripping attacks which are much less serious. Still some gripping pain, but not the embarrassing groaning and crying that came with the wicked attacks a couple days ago . . . it makes me think I'm nuts for not going to the ER . . . but I can't bare the thought of sitting in a hospital cubical doubled over and making weird noises I can't control. The taper will be down to 4 pills tomorrow . . . I hope this works. *sigh* I'm supposed to call the doc on the third or fourth day so that will give me a chance to talk to his assistant about it. So sorry for all yo Crohnie's . . . this is wicked. Blessings!

Oh Rosie, I can't imagine how painful this must be for you.  At least the attacks aren't quite as severe as before. You're making headway!  I get the odd bowel cramp that nearly has me seeing stars it's so painful.  But they only last a few seconds and happen maybe a couple times a month..... OY.  I hope your meds continue to work Rosie,
