What kind of Doctors do you have?

Alot of you have asked me if I've seen such and such a doctor. Most of them I have never even thought of needing. So I was wondering how many doctors do you have and for is it all related to A/I? Maybe my eyes need to be opened a little bit as to what all is or could be involved.

Hi Carol,

 

I have a pile of specialists. But never needed them until I had a problem that required me to see them!  So my pcp and rheumy "hooked me up" with referals whenever an issue came about.  Here's my ever-growing list...

 

rheumatologist, Neurologist, dermatologist, ophthamologist, cardiologist, Internal medicine specialist, Gastrointerologist, psychiatrist, physiotherapist, immunologist (waiting to see him - regarding allergies), nutritionist.

 

I think that's it. Yes, they're all related to my lupus. 

 

Unless you have problems that require a specialist, I wouldn't go looking for any! If the US system is like the Canadian one, you have to get a referral from an existing doctor before any specialist will book an appointment.  They want to know why you need them.

Og Ginny, bless your heart! When do you have time for anything else? Trust me I won't go looking for a doctor I don't need. I don't even want to go to the ones I do need. I guess I was under the impression that a pcp and rheumy maybe a derm and a optomologist. would be able to deal with everything. Of course because of my lungs I have a pulm. but I have had that for years.

Hahahaha, well.... My doctor appointments have become a part time job for me.  I often don't have any time to "enjoy" things.  I'm either working, or dealing with a doctor, or medical related appointment.  January was a gong show.  15 appointments to go to.  I already have 5 so far in the first week of this month.  Stuff like blood tests, seeing my physiotherapist for my arthritis, getting travel letters from my doctor, follow up appointments for tests I had done in January.  Garbage like that.  It's constant.  The blood test stuff is happening twice a week right now.  I just can't keep my blood at a thin enough level.  It wants to be thick and sticky.  So I have to test it twice a week to avoid having another stroke!!!  all the other appointments are from the continual problems I'm having from that medication allergy 8 months ago.  The issues don't want to go away.  I'm like you.  I don't want to see the doctors I already have either.  I'm feeling very "done" by all this.  Sound familiar??? LOL. 

 

I keep leaning on that scripture as well Carol.  It's hard to be content when you're in a constant state of upheaval, isn't it?  Another scripture passage I really like is 2 Corinthians 4:8-9.  It's perfect for what we go through too!  I'm praying for you Carol.  Thanks for being such a good friend to me.

Hi Carol...

How goes it today? How is the weather your way? Ohio is supposed to hit a balmy 58 tomorrow!

As for docs... Here's my list:

rheumatologist, neurologist, ophthalmologist, urologist, gastrointerologist, and my primary care. Oh! and let's not forget the phlebotomist...I almost feel like we are related I see her so much! lol

The rheumy, neurologist, and urologist are all new since being diagnosed. I did see the opthalmologist before...but only when I felt I needed to. Now I have to go every six months because of the lupus meds.

I'm about tired of all the "ologists" I have.

My list:

General Practitioner, Rheumatologist, Gastroenterologist, Neurologist, OB/GYN, Nephrologist, Endocrinoligist, Dermatologist, and Allergist.  And then my wonderful and oh so godly dentist, and my optometrist.. and then theres my favorite three ER physicians.   Whew... looking at it on paper, thats a lot.  I'll bet my insurance company hates to see my name in the stack... LOL! smurf

Hey Dakata and victoria, well the weather here looks pretty nice but I ain't going out to find out. (is it spring yet)?

I'm sorry you all have so many doctors to see. I had no idea. Heck half of them I don't even know what they do. I have to admit my stack is getting larger as well.

I don't want much I'm just looking for a maricle so I eon't have to meet any more doctors.

thanks for sharing ladies. It must completely drive you out of your mind. If this is what things are going to be like for me I think I'll have to straighten out my filing cabinet and put all the doctors in alphebetical order.

My nephrologist is a precious angel who also acts as my primary care; she also treats my lupus although we do ocassionaly consult a rheumatologist. I have had to see a neurologist because of the Neuropsychiatric Lupus, other than that I see a cardiologist and a gynecologist. My nephrologist has been so good about handling things unless it is drastic and requires a specialist. Judy

I see my general practioner, rheumatologist, nephrologist, opthamologist, gastroenterologist, and therapist. I was referred for all except my GP.

Over the last 5 years, I've seen or am seeing: Internal medicine doc, dermatologist, ortho-hands, ortho-hips, spine/pain management doc, opthomologist, rheumatologist, and gastroenterologist. Blessings!

Boy you all are a real eye opener for me. I had no idea that there were so many doctors involved. redface speaking of which I have a doctor appt in the morning so I guess I better go to bed soon. I need to throw some clothes in the dryer. The home health care came out and put in a hand held shower sprayer and a chair in the tub. Everything has been approved now all I need is somone to show up and help me out around  here. Hopfully somone will come this week.

You know my list is gonna be a long one but here goes it anyway:

I see Internal Medicine, rheumatologist, cardiologist, gastrointerologist, ob/gyn oncologist, hematologist/oncologist, pulmonologist, urologist, dermatologist, endocrinologist, dermatologist, anesthesiologist (for pain), general surgeon, my internal medicine doc handles all my day to day things, and determines when I need to see one of my various "ologist"

I also get blood tests drawn bi weekly and always seem to be at the hospital doing something medically related. It's a full time job just seeing my doctors. I normally see at least one of my doctors every week.

Thanks for bringing this up it helps to know that others have as many doctors as I do. Hoping that we all can see less of our "ologist's" this year. Wishing you all well and soft warm hugs.

I have a family Dr. here in Russellville, Ark, my Rhuemmy is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.... and my eye Dr...is in Clarksville, Arkansas....they are my main ones....

Hi Carol.  I see an Internist, Rheumatologist, Psychiatrist, Neurologist, Pulmonologist, ENT, Gyn, Gastroenterologist and Ophthalmologist.  You know pharmaceutical reps hold dinners for doctors to learn about their wares.  I think we should crash so we can meet more doctors.  Love, Butterflake

Carol,

No matter how many doctors or ologists you go to, I believe we should each have one doctor (our primary care or PCP) who refers us to the ologists and gets reports from them. When I go to my PCP, she has copies of any labs that have been run by other docs, reports of my visits to them, new prescriptions, etc. That way at least one doctor has the whole picture of what's going on with me. The problem is finding just the right PCP, which I know has been a struggle for you. I've sure been thinking of you.
