Mu dog was put to sleep today

My dear old mongrel, Duchess, was put to sleep this afternoon. She was 15 at least but we do not know as I rescued her as a stray.
She was my life.
But in the past few days she was not well at all although this morning when I went to college she was ok.
I came back at lunchtime to feed my'girls' and Duch just collapsed at the food bowl, I carried her to the car and straight to the vet.
I had been so sick today, getting to college on time, I sat in the car for an hour and cried cos of the pain, the effort and exhaustion. I went in to try and work. I then started home but did a u-turn to the hospital to leave a note with the neuro and then came home via GP to pick up antibiotics.
And duchess was put down.
I lay beside her at the vets, crying, wondering did I give her a good 'doggy' life. A good friend was with me and the vet was wonderful.
I said my goodbyes and Mr Trayner took her off to be put to sleep and then brought her back and I cried into her soft cheeks and strokes her.
I was so ill, the chorea, dystonia and jiggs went MAD!
But I think it was a releif for duch, and I think that helped me. I HATE seeing suffering in all forms.
I am not sure how the next few days will be.
I am awful sick and awful depressed anyway.
Poor Duch, I hope there is a doggy heaven, God I hope I gave her a good life, everyone says I couldnt have given her a better one.
I wont like walking my chihuahua and not seeing my old girl with her.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I know how wonderful animals are.  I"m a HUGE animal lover.  It breaks my heart to see them suffer too.  I'm so glad she had a wonderful life with you.  You saved her!  She'll be in your heart forever.

So sorry for your loss.  You did the right thing...but I know how hard that had to be.

So sorry for your loss. I had to put down our dachshund a few years ago and it was so sad. I now have two chihuahuas and I have so much love and enjoyment from them. Try your best to give your chihuahua all your love for now. She will miss Duchess, too. This something you can both go through together.

Losing a pet is like losing one of the family and that's because they are one of the family. Let yourself be sad. Give your little doggie lots of love and attention now because your little chihauhau will be missing her too. It's just a hard time so take good care of yourself so you don't get a lot worse with your illnesses.

How sad for you! I suspect Dutchess knew how lucky she was to have been rescued by you and to have spent her life being loved by you. Take care of yourself.
